Good Audiobooks

My wife and I enjoyed a good audio book on our last trip - "Unbroken." We're doing a LOONG trip this summer, and I was hoping to get some of your favorite books that I should listen to. Any suggestions are awesome. Thanks!

Out of Africa

Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail

I also think the Outlander series by Diana Galbaldon would be great on audio, especially if you like history (Scottish).

Back in my live aboard sail boat cruising days some one gave me a bunch of Tom Clancy tapes. Pretty good on long night passages.

I just listened to "The Kite Runner".....it was a good one.
The Alex Cross series by James Patterson are interesting.

We have been downloading from Audible.com

We have enjoyed almost all of the Spenser books (by Robert Parker) read by Joe Mantagna. Robert Parker's Sunny Randall and Jessie Stone books.

I would definitely recommend all the Harry Bosch books by Michael Connelly.

I love Sirius satellite radio. It has both the Book Radio channel and Radio Classics which is a great variety of old time radio shows. Also like NPR. All provide some companionship while on the road alone.

I need to learn more about downloading audiobooks while in Wi-Fi areas to use on the road. I know I can Blue Tooth the Iphone or the Ipad. Will have to recruit some young whipper-snapper to show me how.

Or anything by Bernard Cornwell if you like historical fiction. Agincourt is great.

Lots to choose from at audible.com

Any of the John Grisham books make for good listening. The readers are always excellent.

I don't check any of them out, but I've noticed that major public libraries that use the Overdrive interface often have tons of audiobooks (as well as ebooks) for check-out. Indeed, the library I use (ABQ/Bernalillo Cnty) appears to have a larger stock of audiobooks than ebooks.

I highly recommend The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. The book is told from a dog's point of view, and Stein is a good enough writer to make it work.

You cannot go wrong with anything by Wallace Stegner. He is one of the most underappreciated writers of the 20th Century.

In non fiction science nerd-ish arena

"death by black hole"

Neil DeGrasse Tyson

Mind blowing content

A thimble full of the center of a neutron star is as heavy as 50 million adult elephants.....

So much good stuff if you like that sorta thing (no requirement for science education - very accessible)

Good one PharmGeek! I just saw Neil DeGrasse Tyson on Bill Moyers. He's so interesting!

Did you know Neil DeGrasse Tyson will be hosting the new Cosmos series?

Anyway, I second your recommendation on the audio book.

We do a lot of longer trips and enjoy audio books as we travel. We enjoyed "unbroken" on our last trip a week ago. Other favorites were "Killing Lincoln" and "Killing Jesus" and we are looking for "Killing Kennedy". We also enjoy the Alex Cross mysteries by James Patterson.

We download books from the public library to my smartphone and play them through the trucks sound system.

We love listening to any of the books by Clive Cussler - most of them are fictional adventure books. Some examples are 'Artic Drift' or 'Inca Gold'. Usually on a long trip we get them from the library and they make the trip so much more enjoyable.
