Just curious if there is a different dynamic towards salt corrosion that comes into play.
Salt in the air from living near the coast would probably be more of a concern.

That's why I carry a small electric pressure washer with me!

You have to live within a 1/4 mile of beach for salt air to be a significant problem urge front row beach houses taking the brunt.

Salt water on some roads at time of high tides is an occasional problem but pretty rare and usually easy to avoid. Not a problem during rain because of freshwater dilution and rinsing effect of wet roads. Not anything like the problem of winter roads in the north where salty slush sticks to underside of vehicle.

My parents are in Columbia. They have warned about coming down I-40 to I-26 as when you hit Columbia, you will be turned away. Parts of I-26 starting to flood and they are re-routing traffic. Could be a mess.

Rain along the coast finally moving North. Starting yesterday afternoon, rain found another gear and it rained hard and long. Smart to wait a day. I think the coast will be better soon but getting here will the challenge. Upstate still taking the brunt. Might want to think about diverting south and taking a route through Georgia.

Hunting Island State Park is out. Just got off the phone with the Ranger Station. They have closed the campground until after checkin on Tuesday (3pm). Makes the 16 hour round trip not worth it. Looks like we may head to Land Between The Lakes in Kentucky for the week. Huge let down for the kids.

Check your pm's for some info I sent you on some road closures at the beach. Be sure to do some checking before you drive all the way in.

I-26/I-20 closed in Columbia.

I-20/I-95 closed to the beach for a 30 mile stretch.

Beach is out. Were going to move the reservation to March for kids Spring Break, but campground is already full. WTHeck?

We are headed to Land Between the Lakes, KY. (not the beach, but at least it is out of town!)

Be safe all my South Carolina friends!

Thanks for the info!
I hope the flooding will be over soon, for those of you with immediate travel plans!

I'm planning to travel through I-26 to I-95 on Wednesday. May have to change, further inland.
Anyone have info on any flooding, bridges, etc., on US 301 south of Orangeburg, SC? That route could be an alternate for me.
Please keep updating local info if you have any!!

Thanks. Any others looking for SC road info, try the "SC 511" app available on iOS and Android. For now, Edisto Beach is still closed and flooded due to water breaching the dunes. And the Edisto River is expected to dump a lot of water over the next few days because it is above flood stage.

Yikes!

The hazards of living in the lowlands......but such a spectacularly beautiful area and place.
