Glacier NP Campgrounds

Looking for general info here, which are quiet/scenic and so forth. Any feel for if it is better on the east vs west side? Thanks in advance for the tips!

Gen Disarray, if you are heading for Glacier, lucky you. On the west side, we stayed in a private campground just outside the park: Mountain Meadow ... . I don't remember the full name, but it was very pleasant, fairly large, but we felt separated from neighbors by trees, shrubbery, and the office staff was friendly, helpful. We tried to connect with our lap top there and had trouble there, but that's because we are so non-techy. Don't be surprised by the name of the park; it's hilly. We have a 30' and did okay, but a few turns were tight. On the east side, we pulled into the park to Many Glacier Campground. We had to go in without a reservation and crossed our fingers. They had one site to fit us and it was even a pull through Beautiful setting in creek valley with HIGH rock all around--great central location for hiking, I understand, though we did not. We would recommend both places. Have a great trip, and DO take the red bus tour for the Going to the Sun Road. ~G

We stayed at the main campground right next to Macdonald Lake which is next to the shops etc. and it was very nice for spending a series of days touring the Going to the Sun road, the lake and parts west.
This photo is looking down towards Two Medicines campground are which was spectacular and remote. Rustic campsites with a lake surrounded by mountain ridges on every side.
Since you are already there, hook that airstream up and travel north to Canada's Glacier, the Watertown Park (second photo) The town is located in the park and there is a large resort, boat trips to remote hikes, and Canadian bears. And Canadian deer that walk up an down the streets of town.

We camped on the East side last Sept and enjoyed Many Glacier (North of St Mary) and then Two Medicine. We enjoyed them both. We had our kayaks and nosed around the lakes at a nice, leisurely pace.

Since you are so close, I agree with Gary and suggest that you go across the border and camp at Waterton Lakes. There is a good campground right in the townsite - very picturesque. And the lakes are spectacular. Go up the hill to the Prince of Wales - you can go in even if you are not staying, and see if you can shoot less than a roll of film once you look out their back windows. Then once you go out to the edge of the hill and shoot some more, turn around and break the digital budget on hotel shots.

You can take a short cruise on Waterton Lake that goes to the US border station at Goat Haunt. You can see the border as you cross it, as there is a wide swath of cleared land plus a pylon.

A short drive to Cameron Lake is also a great place - rent a kayak and just drift away. It is a small lake, and the US border is at the other end.

It is one of the most beautiful spots on this earth.

Thanks for the inside skinny on the park. For this trip Canada is off the table for sure. Im hoping to salvage 3-4 weeks for the trip. I plan on busting a move up to Glacier and then drifting south. Keep them tips comming

We backpacked Glacier several years ago - it'd be a tight fit to get your AS into some of THOSE sites - no hookups either! I'm jealous - it is a BEAUTIFUL place.

I've read that going-to-the-sun road is under construction and I know there is a length limit on towing on it - you should check ahead of time to avoid delays.

Best hamburgers we had were at the Park Grille just outside of Many Glacier.

Hi! I live a very short distance from Glacier Park and spend a great deal of time there. I could gather some information and brochures and mail them to you if that would help with your planning. Let me know if I can be of any assistance. The current restrictions for driving the Going-to-the-Sun Road are a maximum length of 21 feet and 8 feet wide - your trailer is already over the length. This is not a road that you would enjoy towing anything over - it is a very narrow, curvy road. The pull-offs are very limited and small. The main pull off area is at the summit - the Logan Pass visitor center - this parking lot has been enlarged, but it is most often full during the busy months of July and August. If you have the time you will enjoy the road much more by taking one of the "Jammer" red buses. Let someone else drive and enjoy the scenery - the drivers are also very knowledgable and you will learn a great deal about the park! Enjoy your visit! Carol

I too am considering going to Glacier with the Argosy in August.

Any campground info would be appreciated. East side is where we will headquarter out of.

We are thinking of bringing a canoe as well so any info on that would be great.
