Gettysburg campground recommendations?

We will be traveling in Pennsylvania soon and would like recommendations on campgrounds near Gettysburg, also York. There seem not to be any public lands (state/national forests) in these areas, so it looks like private campgrounds. Any and all remarks, positive and negative, gratefully received.

We camped at Gettysburg Campground a few weeks ago. The sites are very level. We have a 5- amp unit, and we think the electricity was not adequate. We blew a breaker and froze the motor on our air conditioner unit. We were on a "shared" hookup site. Drummer Boy is probably the best of the Gettysburg Campgrounds. Granite Hill has only a few level sites -- most are on hills and very much not level.

We stayed at Granite Hill several summers ago and had a blast! I would highly recommend it.

We are planning on staying at www.drummerboycampground.com July 6-9. It is nicer than Round Top Campground. I don't know of others, but Drummer Boy is big, and has lots too offer. Good luck.

Have stayed at Drummer Boy twice. Nice site and very helpful owners. Right off the Rt 15 exit and close to everything. See also "My Favorite Oops" re first Gettysburg trip with 345 motorhome - "that rear end sure do make a wide swing" - or "pop goes the window"!

Thanks to everyone for responding. I'm checking in from Reading,PA. We are staying in the French Creek State Forest. Nice level sites with 30 and 50 amp electric but no water h/u. That's the same for other state forests we've stayed in: near Gettysburg/Chambersburg: Caledonia SF; near York: Codorus SF.

We enjoy the public lands and the camping is cheap: $13/night weeknights; $17 weekends. Our problem is that we discovered the fresh water tank apparently has a leak, so no onboard water. As old tent campers, that doesn't present a terrific problem, just a bit of a hassle.

Lots of bad roads out there, unfortunately. I think I'll have to take my truck in for front end alignment and wheel balancing after hitting so many "repairs" and potholes.
