Generator Rack
Hi
I have struggled through several years and Airstreams trying to figure out the best way to haul a generator. I have always put them in the bed of my truck and once I tried to leave it in the bed while in use but I actually melted a gas container doing that. I have also tried to lift them in and out every time I use them that doesn't work very good with a larger unit.
I do see some Airstreams out there with a generator on a rear mounted rack. I have never had the opportunity to speak to anyone that uses a rear rack on their Airstream TT.
Can I get some thoughts and ideas on this?
Thanks

There is company making generator racks that fit on top of the battery box. You can find it using Google.

I've certainly seen some mounted to front hitches on a truck, hanging off the front end.
I read something somewhere about mounting on the tongue could alter the tongue weight?? I haven't looked into deep enough to know, and I also don't own any generators. But, I saw this while researching it and thought it was pretty nifty

I think over battery mount certainly would add the weight of the rack and the generator. Cost of easy storage and access I suppose. Personally I think it would be a bit of a bother to have to remove the generator and mount every time I wanted to check the batteries.

I really hope I can find someone that has experience carrying a generator on a rear mounted rack. Similar to a bike rack.

From what I understand, it's a bad idea to mount too much weight to the rear of a trailer. But some gensets are very light....

If you mount a generator on a slide out rack, does it need a ground strap to prevent static during fueling?

Great question. Would you be fueling directly from the pump, or from a plastic gas can? I would think a ground would be a good idea, but aren't the plastic cans static free?

Love my Bed Slide. Had it installed immediately after purchasing my 2006 diesel pickup. It has been a great help in NOT having to crawl into the front of the bed when I can just slide the platform out and reach into a storage box.
