That one is a photomerge of 5 individual shots stitched together. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. I have to admit, I do not hate that one completely.

Rodney, The Zion panorama is acceptable. Keep sending pix until you get it right.

When I showed it to Barb, she just said "wow!". I agree.

Are you planning your next trip yet? We're aiming for northern Cal. and Oregon for Sept.

Standing on a corner in Winslow Az

Actually, I'm sitting at the Flying Js but what can I say? Thanks for all the kind words about the pictures . The trip is winding down I'm afraid. I am aiming for the Jemez springs area in NM tomorrow for a few days then back to Lawton for another year on Monday. I expect the next adventure won't be until winter break then it will likely be a run to TN then new years at padre on the beach again.

Winslow AZ

Winslow Az is a bleak little town, that's dying since the four lane passed it by, but there is a pawn shop in town where the discerning can get great sterling and turquoise jewelry. Also about two miles east of town there's a trading post. You've got to bargain like in an Egyptian rug shop, but again - good deals.

Oh, I don't know about that! Go down to the La Posada Hotel and take a look! That's one of Mary Jane Colter's creations, and it is grand! Also check out Homolovi Ruins State Park just outside of town. It's also very interesting!

Oh, boy, I hope you're ready for OK weather. Highs in the 90s, lots of humidity.

Padre Island took a good hit from Dolly. It will be cleaned up by winter but power was out almost 2 weeks. Lots of destruction in the whole area.

Rodney, Lynn's right, check out La Posada. This was the only hotel Mary Colter had a free hand in designing. She was the first American woman architect and worked for Fred Harvey and the Santa Fe RR in the early 20th century. She designed this hotel to resemble the main buildings of a large hacienda. Since people arrived by train, not so much by car, to appreciate the building, you have to look at it from the railroad tracks. Colter always tried to design buildings to fit in with the surroundings.

Some people bought it in the '90's and have been restoring it, though not always with historical accuracy. It has the best restaurant in town, or did in '03 when we were there.

Back in Lawton

I pulled in at the RV park here in town early yesterday evening after a full days tow from the Jemez mountains. I will put together a trip summary and post it in a few days. For now, all I can say is it was a tremendous summer and a great experience which I recommend to anyone with the opportunity to take a similar voyage. Without a doubt it was made all the better by those of you who generously shared your insights and local knowledge with me. Just sitting here now, I realize the number of you I met one way or another while out there. Every single one of you was a pleasure to meet and talk with. Thanks for making my summer such a special experience.

Karma all around (boogers on the thanks button- long live karma )

Welcome home, Rodney! Been following your odyssey...thought maybe you'd get close enough to our neck of the woods (SoAZ) to tempt you to visit...but maybe next time... Glad you got back safe and sound! It was a wonderful trek...

after images

I started plowing through the gigs and gigs of raw images from the summer the other day. Here is a new one (albeit from the end of May). For everyone stuck not traveling at right now, perhaps it will give a moment of vicarious travel relief. I am thinking pretty seriously about printing some of these up for sale to try and cover some of the cost of my travel photography habit, but then again the way I do things, it would probably end up costing me a fortune....
