General's gone AWOL again

Yesterdays mechanic crisis aka the $2,500 oil change, was resolved and the plan such as it is, is to head up I44 and over to St Louis for some eagle watching. Guess what.. winter storms. So today the question is whether to wait and see what the morning brings weather wise, or to maybe just re-route south of the storm through Arkansas on over to Tennessee. For not having made it out of town yet, I'm off to a rough start. If any of you on the I44 corridor have weather updates as the storm comes through, I would love to have them .

Shoot...
Wait it out and enjoy the snow.
Take lots of photos too.

Arkansas may not be south enough anyway.
What was the story on the $$$ oil change?

I see you are planning to come over to Chattanooga. We have had record temps here this, with the high's reaching almost 80. They (the weatherguys) say that colder temps are headed our way, but only down to 40's for the weekend. Don't know if this helps you or not, but that's what I know.

If you do get down to Chattanooga, give us a call. We'll be glad to recommend places to stay and things to do. I would offer our driveway, but it is full of Airstreams right now!

Thanks! I will be staying at my mothers near Manchester TN. Not sure when I will be hitting the Vol state. If the snow along the I44 corridor is to extensive it will be soon than I had originally planned.

I44 in Missouri

For those of you in the know: if this storm drops 6 inches of snow on the interstate, how good will the Missouri DOT be at clearing the interstate up? Half a day? a week? mid June?

Rodney,

Glad to hear you got your Ford problems solved and only have to worry about snow. I hope you get to see some eagles.

Pretty cold, windy and foggy here and it started at I-35 and the Turnpike entrance in OKC and right up the Turnpike East to Chandler. Not so bad you couldn't drive, but it's bitterly cold and windy. Snow is supposed to be North of us with Chandler looking at 4", maybe. Good luck on your trip. Call if you need help between OKC and Tulsa. I'll be home and I have the Tundra to help you out.

It looks like Rodney will be heading north then south while I will be headed to Jackson Center, Ohio tomorrow morning. Man O Man, I see 70% chance of snow at the factory Saturday. I hope to make it north of Louisville by Sat. evening and then on to the factory Sunday morning.

David,
You may want to get up here before Sunday. Here is Sunday's forecast for Jackson Center. Could be nasty. Good Luck

Sunday
Snow in the morning...then snow likely in the afternoon. Areas of blowing snow. Total storm accumulation of 6 to 10 inches. Blustery with highs in the mid 20s. Northwest winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Chance of snow near 100 percent.

All right, it's snowing pretty hard up here in Chandler, America. Starting to stick a little; however, it's been raining most of the night, so the temps aren't really that bad yet.

Snowing steadily here with about 3 inches on ground, more forecast this afternoon into this evening. The heavier snow is forecast to be south of us along the I44 corridor into St Louis according to this morning's forecast. Road crews will likely be out and working hard, but such roads are always a chance. Be safe. ~G

Rivet Possible Alternative

Hi Rodney,

What have you decided and where are you now?

The coldest it has been here in Little Rock is 32.1-yesterday morning at 7:07am. It is 41.0 right now. It has been, and still is, foggy and rainy, but no freezing.

I’ll suggest it again in case the weather interferes with the more northern part of your route. There is good eagle watching at DeGray Lake Resort State Park in southwest Arkansas.

GPS Coordinates:
N 34° 14' 50"
W 93° 8' 45"

There are 113 30amp with water sites, 37 of which are on the water.

Ok Rodney, make a run for it. It's 37 here in Chandler, snow has stopped. Supposed to have sun (whatever that is) tomorrow and warm into the 50's by Friday.

Good luck, Rodney.

By the way, be sure to secure your hatches - the road from Chattanooga to Birmingham is about as bumpy as you can find it. (Actually it is from Ft Payne to Birm, as I recall from our last trip).

Bon voyage.

There is a state highway that parallels the super-highway, a bit slower but a smoother ride. I have not been on it but my in-laws did and said it was a nice drive. I would say that the trip from Chatt to B'ham is about as rough as you can get for that length of time. Avoid it if possible and use the truck alternate route around B'ham.
