Gas to Hit $5 a Gallon by Memorial Day(Perhaps)

If gas hits $5 per gallon by Memorial Day, how will you handle your travel? Of course, things could change, but have you thought about the "what if?" Creative thoughts welcome.

I'll be riding my scooter (65 mpg) to keep from using my gas guzzling TV that I need just for about 3-4 weeks of the year! Kinda crazy, but I know I'm not the only one here that uses their trailer for such a short amount of time, am I? Sometimes I think about selling it & getting a smaller one, but the comforts of home are so nice while I'm out!

Well if gas hits 5 bucks a gallon then I guess me and Mrs. S will have to cancel our 3000 mile camping trip in Sept. and camp in the yard......NOT! I look at it like this you only have one life to live and Im not going to live it worrying about the price of fuel. In my personal opinion 5 bucks a gallon for fuel is a very small price to pay to have unforgettable memories with my wife. This is our dream and fuel will not stop us from living it. Guess it all depends what the drive is behind why you bought your AS in the first place.

Since we retired the end of last year, we have been driving much less weekly, so have been saving there. That will help a bit as gas prices rise. Think that we might look for cheaper places to park, like natl forest areas, state parks, etc. But we got the a/s to see lots of places in our retirement - guess we will make it work.

Something else will have to give...we aren't going to change our travel plans. We already have several trips planned totally about 5500 miles & 35 nights out - there will probably be more, that's just the plan as of now. Not bad for workin' folks!

And pay it, hating the overpricing each and every step. BUT I will not give up my full size V8 powered truck, other things will have to be sacrificed. I belive if gas hits $5 a gallon the economy will tank again, pun intended. MPJ

It's not going to affect my travel. By RV standards the Airstream is relatively economical. I pulled mine to Zion from so. CA two years in a row and averaged nearly 15 mpg.

Actually it could keep me in the Airstream much longer than I anticipated. I had thought about one more RV in my life, a motorhome. But $5. per gallon fuel, big expense for motorhome, and some loss of personal equity points to a more conservative course for me. Me and the 25' may drive off into the sunset as my last RV. It would be just fine.

I'm looking for $8/gallon. Then, maybe, things will really change!

We have already cut back and have only a couple trips planned for this year, so gas prices won't be stopping us! I guess if it gets really bad we'll have to go buy a VW camper-bus and paint it silver and hope our Airstream friends don't suspect anything...

I read a few months ago gas was going up to 5 dollars a gallon . My biggest concern will be the impact on food prices. People will being paying more at the pump, but also the huge jump in food prices is coming.

You think demonstrations are crazy now in this world just wait until the other countries raise their food prices by a significant amount. I am sure glad I live in the good old USA. What a great country.

Get your gardens ready and grow veggies. That will cut down on food prices.

If it goes there then I guess it goes there. I eat mostly local organic anyway, and pay a lot for food as it is. I have a diesel TV so maybe it won't be as bad for diesel... doubtful but Ive got to hope. I guess if it gets really bad eventually I'll sell everything and just live full time in the stream. Maybe we need to have a bit of a revolution in this country??
