From Dallas Eastbound-I-20 or I-30?

I'm headed back to Virginia soon. Both roads have their "bad spots" I know. I came in to Dallas on I-20 this time, and I-30 last time. I'd like to hear from veteran AS-pullers which is the least punishing, in their opinion.

I-20 through Shreveport LA was sooo bad 2 years back we gave up and hit the secondary roads. Any updated feedback on that section would also interest me.

Given the two options, and having driven both in the last year, I would take 30, but just my opinion.

I agree that 30 is your best bet. I always leave after midnight to avoid the traffic and it seems to work out fine.

We were on I20 and I30 on the way to Virginia last December. Other than the usual construction areas, the roads were not as bad as in the past.

You might go to Dreamstreamr's blog and ask Jim and Debbie.. I know they recently made the trip back from Arizona and took I-30 back towards North Carolina.... They could give you a pretty recent update. I've only been on 30 for an hour east of Dallas lately and it was fine.... but beyond that.. no info here

Thanks to all. I like the option of U.S. 82 picked up North of Denton, which I'm near. I'll then head East on it until it hits I-30 and work my way home off and on that, bearing over to Asheville for a short and then home via I-40 to U.S. 29 North in Greensboro.
