Frio River, Concan Texas

Thought I throw in a review of one of our favorite places to go. The Frio River in Concan Texas.

We normally stay at the Parkview Riverside RV park, which backs up to the Frio River, which runs between the park and Garner State Park. The river is spring fed, and runs clear 99% of the time.

Parkveiw River Side RV Park | South Texas

Full hookups, river view, cool temps, great people running the park,

Doug's the owner, Pam runs the front desk.

3 recommendations:

1) book river view sites (full hookup inc cable)
2) Bring inner tubes (or rent them) to sit and float in the rool Frio river.
3) Come out during thanksgiving, weathers great, and the owner fries and cooks up a few turkeys for everyone in the park. It become a huge pot luck, everyone brings a side dish and Doug serves up a great fried turkey.

Attached are some pics of latest trip at the park...

We'll be there, except on the Garner side. We have been doing Thanksgiving there for five years now but this time we are finally able to bring the AS. Pics from last year. It will be our first "real" trip. I am a bit nervous. We hope to make a few practice trips before then. Our extended family books as many cabins as we can (usually 4) and have a wonderful time. Great weather and good times.

We stayed at Parkview during spring break a few years back. As stated the park and the owners are great.

That part of Texas, in the Spring, is subject to heavy rains, and the Frio can get out of its banks rapidly. One evening around 11:30 some strong winds came up, and then the rain. Doug went from trailer to trailer knocking on doors to get the owners to tend their awnings. There were some tent campers and he went to them, got them and their gear in his truck and took them to his pavillion for them to stay the rest of the night. I got up every hour to check the river so we could make a getaway if needed. It wasn't.

The only down side is that Concan is dry. For the uninformed, you spell that NO BEER is sold in the county. A quick 90 mile jaunt into Uvalde, and your restocked.

This is a park, and an area of Texas, worth visiting. Some of the roads are narrow and twisty, but not that bad if you keep your speed down. If you get over to Uvalde, take a tour of the local state bank. It's owned by one of our former Governors, and he furnished it with a lot of art work he picked up from his world travels. The bank is known for having more Picasso's than any other bank. Pretty interesting, and when you're done you can stock up on beer before returning to Concan.

Beautiful trailer photos . I am still very impressed with the sky light job. Going to attempt it summer 2010.Also it looks like a very nice campground. To bad it is so far from Calif.
