Fredericksburg, VA.

I've just been told that one of my nieces is going to be married in Fredericksburg, Virginia on Oct. 27, 2007. I've looked up info in my Trailer Life Directory and found info on Fredericksburg KOA. I've also gone on line for VA. State Parks and found Lake Anna and Westmoreland State Parks. My wife, for once, wants to take the camper up there for a week and sitesee things like the nearby battlefields. She also want to go into Washington, D.C., something I really do not have a desire to do.

Anyone been to the KOA or either of the State Parks mentioned above and which do you recommend? The KOA is close but I don't mind driving if the State Parks are nicer.

Campgrounds

I stay regularly just above Fredericksburg at Aquia Pines RV or at Prince William Forest RV park up in Dumfries. Aquia Pines is on I95 in Stafford, Va.

Per chance, are you retired Military? Quantico Marine Corps Base has a nice RV park out behind the FBI Academy on Lake Lunga / Resevoir. There is a campground that gives the WBCCI discount over in Loiusa (close to Lake Anna) called Small Country Campground but you'd have to be a WBCCI member to get it. 540 967 2431.

If you're into theme parks, King's Dominion isn't too far down 95 from there. It's pretty cool when the crowds aren't bad.

Safford RV is the Airstream dealer in Fredericksburg, and you can see them from I-95. They're just south of Fredericksburg. Nice folks there. Not too bad a selection.

I live about 2.5 hours from Fredericksburg. Sorry I can't help you with the campgrounds....I've usually just made day trips down there.

Have fun!

Another one

Right in Fredericksburg, there is Grainger's Trailer Park. They do have about 5-10 spots they rent to RVs and trailers. It is on Harrison road I believe. I used to live in Fredericksburg, and there is alot to do there.

Are you a WBCCI member. A friend of ours and a fellow WDCU WBCCI member offers Courtesy Parking over in Colonial Beach, about 25 miles from Fredericksburg too. They actually live in the park of George Washington's birthplace. If you are interested, email me at rob@theVAP.com and I will send you their info.

RobandZoe,
I'm not military but the bride's father is former Marine. I'm not a WBCCI member either. I have plenty of time to organize where we will stay so am open to all options and suggestions.

Done Lake Anna SP and it's really nice. There are other RV parks around the lake but I don't know the names right off the top of my head. I'll research and reply again.
I've heard the Prince William Forest SP.
There is an Americamp campground in Ashland VA about 30 miles south of F'burg. Sister and her husband have stayed there and said it was nice.

We bought our AS from Safford and they're great. They may be able to direct you to a good place to stay. (1-540-898-7200 and ask for the RV dealership. Safford has both cars and RV's)

If you're anywhere in the F'burg, Richmond, DC corridor, you can throw a rock and hit something historical. We're in the process of moving from Richmond to Lynchburg after being here 37 years.

I've not been there yet but there is the new Marine Corps Memorial at Quantico. From I-95 it's very impressive and the media has given it a great review.

If you want to go the Smithsonian Inst. or any other site in DC proper may I suggest you take the METRO in. Find the station the farthest out and park there. Parking and traffic in DC is horroble, almost as bad as my spelling.

Thumbs up

If you decide to see DC, your best bet is Cherry Hill RV Park in College Park, MD. They have a shuttle ride to the metro that makes it very easy getting in and out of DC.
