Fort Wilderness

we are headed down to the Fort soon. Was wondering if any of you that have stayed often have any tip or suggestions? Your favorite things to do at Fort Wilderness. We are taking the bikes so we can ride through the loops...

I know "Minnies Mate" has stayed there. In case they don't see the thread, you may want to PM them.

We've been there once and loved it! Absolutely do take your bikes - we especially enjoyed biking everywhere there. We even rode up to the restaurant they have there and had lunch one day. We were in one of the pet loops, parked right next to a big pond and just a stone's throw from a little store, which was very convenient. They have a very nice dog park there as well. Every site has its own grill, which was nice. Can't wait to go back!

I prefer to stay in the preferred loops, 100-400. They are smaller spots but a 34 will fit. The advantage is you can walk of ride the bike to the dock and use the ferries to the magic kingdom and jump back and forth during the day. The fire works from the deck of one of the ferries is great and no croud to deal with afterward. This is a timing thing

The biggest disappointment I have found in recent years is the significant reduction in the bus services. The last time we were there I used my car to and from most of the other venues because the buses could take up to an hour.

imho, probably one of the nicest places in north america to camp.just came back from two weeks in ft widerness.stayed in the 900 loop which is the nicest loop i have syayed in.i find the place very relaxing to do as much as you want or as little as you want.sometimes we will just take a day and visit all the swimming pools throughout the disney locations.i enjoy downtown disney in the evening for dining and entertainment.in the past i usually stayed a week, but found that with the distance i was traveling that 2 weeks is much more relaxing.i will definately be going back.i have stayed at the ft about six times.also the 900 loop is a premium loop that gives you a much longer pad and lots of privacy and room which i prefer.

arrive fully stocked for eating and supplies.

while there are some basic groceries available on the compound,

leaving to shop out in the real world is very time consuming.

and hold on to yer wallet, it's easy to drop a boat load of money beyond the ticket price.

many threads, this one is full of details...

here are several others on the mouse house camping n activities ...

Thanks 2air!

We are planning to hit the grocery store before heading into the resort. We are also planning meals that use some of the same ingredients (rice, pasta, bread, etc). We are only allowing the kids to spend what they have saved or been given on gift cards.

I have read good portions of those threads a few months back. However, it never hurts to ask again since several have been to Fort Wilderness very recently.

PS. Our trip to Pittsburg went off ok. We just had to dump our blue boy every night before going to sleep. Thanksgiving was a cold one!! Thanks for the help on that one.

Don't think I've been without wipes or sanitizer since my kids were born... those wipes will clean just about anything!

Fort Wilderness and a military ID

For those headed to Fort Wilderness and have a military ID don't forget to go to a base and see the ITT office. This week I purchased nine tickets for my family for Christmas for Feburary. They cost $138 for a four day and park hopper. Last year they had even a better deal. Use the benifits you earned.

Fort Wilderness is without a doubt one of our favorite places to camp. Taking your bikes is a good idea...lots of area to explore. We like to take the back way and walk to the Wilderness Lodge for a meal in the Wispering Canyon. Relaxing around the pool is also a favorite. Getting hit with lake affect snow here in Western PA makes me want to head south. Have a great time.

It's not to bad down here. You'll burn some propane if your using that for heat. Yeah, it's cold in the morning, but the sun comes out, with really clear skies. Nothing uplifts the spirits like sunshine!

Absolutely the best place we have ever stayed. (Done it twice now) Stayed in preferred loop 100 both times, with our 31 footer. We love it because you DON'T ever have to leave! Bikes with lighting would be recommended. Stores and restaurants can be walked to....Laundry too. I did not notice any transport problems in early June.
The kids are begging to go again this June, and we may go again.
Have Fun!

You do not need to go to a base to get the military rates at the parks. They honor all the published and authorized by Disney rates at Shades of Green military resort complex at Disney World. You can also get the same rates but pay taxes at the gates to any park - just have your military ID - DoD civilians get the same rates with their ID's.

Try to get into the 100 through the 300 loops - they are the best in my opinion. They are non-pets but if it's just little FiFi you will fit right in with the rest of the pet owners.

I paid $99 4 day/non-park hopper (4 tickets for 4 adults for 4 days) pass earlier this year, last year we got one FREE 5-day park hopper pass and a discount rate for attending adult at a much reduced rate. FW will give you $5 off the daily camping fee if you tell them when you make the reservation.

Get the book "Unofficial Guide to Disney World" about $15 - it will save you much more on the purchase price on a stay at Disney.

The 300 loop is our favorite as there's a path that takes you behind the loop on the lake that takes you all the way to where you pick up the boat. Call the campground before you leave and ask for the loop/loops you prefer. They can't guarantee but will try hard. If you wait until when checking in, it's probably too late. We've been there when they make the 300 loop a pet look so check on that too. Brad and I took the Segway tour at the campground last year. It's expensive but totally worth it! It was a blast! Don't forger your Christams lights as everyone does it up big with decorating this time of year. Have fun!

We have a preferred site with two dogs. So I think that puts us in the 300 loop, as I have heard it's the only preferred pet loop. I am going to try online registration and then maybe see about requesting a loop.

I bought Exthemius (my husband's airforums name) his own special Airstream lights to hang around the trailer and we are taking another regular string or two as well. I have left 2 full days free of park tickets so we can just enjoy the fort!
