This Article was in the Austin American Statesman newspaper today. There will be 78 camping spots on the back straight:

"At Circuit of the Americas, $15,000 buys a secured RV spot for up to four races a year and eight tickets to each race, which will allow access to the RV spots, general admission and common areas"


"RV parks near the circuit said they've seen high demand for the inaugural race, scheduled for Nov. 16 to 18. M.J. Ralph, the manager at Oak Forest RV Park off Decker Lane in eastern Travis County, set aside 15 spaces for race week.

For Formula One, the rate is $125 a night. Normally, without discounts, a spot costs $44 a night for two people "

This chart compares track-side spaces only. Some tracks have more expensive premium RV spaces near the track.

My experience is at Sonoma you can camp across the street from the track in the 40 acres compound for a lot less. No Hookups and very easy to get in and out.

Darn, there goes my monthly allowance....
We probably will rent the Airstream Motor Home out for that weekend in Nov...in my driveway. As i understand it, you can't even drive to the race that weekend, have to take the bus.

Camping options have improved for Circuit of the Americas. Dry camping is now available in Lot N, which is Between turns 1 and 7, for $79 per weekend or $149 for a double wide spot. This is for the Lone Star Lemans event Sept 18-20. General Admission tickets are $79 for the weekend. There will be fireworks and a concert by Blue Oyster Cult. This is the first time for this event and the first night race at COTA. There will be several groups of cars racing including the Lemans Prototypes from Porsche, Audi, and Toyota.

The SVRA Vintage race will be Oct 10 -12 Featuring Trans Am cars. GA tickets are $59 for the weekend. No information on camping yet up on the COTA website. Asleep at the Wheel will be providing a concert at the Amphitheatre. This is one of my favorite events of the year.

Formula One is coming Oct 31 -Nov2 - Looks like there is no camping option offered except for season ticket holders in the RV lot. GA tickets are $169 for the weekend which does not include parking. This is a fun international event. There are several RV parks, county, and state parks near Austin where you can camp.

Base upon F1 history, don't make any longterm commitments to attend the F1 races at your new track. Google to see what happened in Indianapolis when they came to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Speedway gave them everything they demanded to host the race in Indy. There was the tire fiasco and the drivers getting out of the cars after a couple laps and walking away leaving the fans, one of them being myself and 3 other family members, with high priced tickets, and memories of extremely mad fans littering the track with coolers, beverages and trash. Almost a mass riot. Think about the foreigners that paid for airline tickets and jacked-up hotel prices that got to see a couple laps before heading home. Bernie Ecclestone could give a rats behind about the fans. Good luck with F1.

Has anyone camped near Montreal for the Canadian race? It looks like there are campgrounds close to the city, and even close to the subway (which takes you right to the park where the race is).

The 2000 F1 US Grand Prix at Indy was amazing. We camped in our RV right across the street from the track in an old RV Park. Could hear the F1 engines running in the middle of the night.....like they were right next door. The F1 drivers were very accessible. My son got most of their autographs. The viewing mounds were as nice as the grandstands. Nothing but great memories of our cross country trip to Indianapolis.

I would expect F1 in Austin to be just as fun. Everyone that I know that treks out there has nothing but good things to say.
