Ford 2014 Ecoboost 150 with Max tow and HD payload
Does anybody have experience with the ecoboost F150 with the max tow package and heavy duty payload capacity? We found, on our last trip, we were borderline as far as capacity with our 2010 F150 (5.4 L V8) which has a GVWR of 7100 pounds. We want to comfortably tow our 2006 25' Safari in the Rocky Mountains. Thanks for any input!

I've been towing with a 2012 F150 with the ecoboost for two years. Just recently traded for a 2014 F150 with the ecoboost. Cannot imagine towing with anything else.

Our 2013 F150 handles our 30' classic like a charm. The 2015 ought to be better with the lighter aluminum body. Haven't heard if clear coat will be a color option....

We have a 2011 F150 Ecoboost Max Tow, but not the heavy duty package. Payload capacity is 1760. It performs really well towing our 30 foot International. The 2015 with lighter weight and increased horsepower is on my radar. But our current rig does great.

We have been towing our 25FC all around the Canadian Rockies and Pacific Northwest for the last two months. We have a 2011 Ecoboost without the HD payload capacity. We have a platinum with max tow but without the HD. It has been a champ and we plan to get the same model in the 2015 when they are available. We have 15500 gcwr with maximum trailer weight capacity of 9700 lbs.

Hi,
I have a 2013 ecoboost, XLT with max tow and HD package. Payload capacity per the door sticker is around 2200 lbs and I can pull 11000lbs.
Our 19' is not really heavy, but we travel with 4 bikes in the bed, 2-3 bundle of wood, bike gears, propane stove, extra propane, chairs and some more camping stuff. The truck stays level and I can still accelerate pretty fast if needed.
I say go for it if you need it.
Edit: I get 11mpg while towing at 70mph and 13 at 60mph.

I am looking at the Dodge's payload figures and with the Eco Diesel and with the options that I would want, has less than a 1000 lbs of payload. We have found that the 2015 Ford HD payload package is on a build hold, you can't get a delivery date and doesn't appear that the 15's will be delivered before December no matter what you order.

We're in the same situation as you with all the stuff we bring. On our last trip we added two kayaks to the load along with various other camping gear, an 80 pound dog, and us, of course. When we added the tongue weight to the payload, we found we were a little over the 7100 lb. GVWR of our 2010 F150. I've heard lots of great things about the Ford Ecoboost, but it's hard to locate one with Max tow AND heavy duty payload. We found a 2014 we love in South Dakota, but alas, we live in Florida!

they are sure hard to find. We bought ours in October 2013. Our dealership in Michigan looked in his computer and he could only find one with that configuration and it was in Wisconsin. It was not the color we wanted and had the center seat instead of a console, but he gave us a really good price.
We could have ordered a 2014, but it would have been a lot more expensive and truth is, I did not really care about the color or the center consol.

I have been towing my 25 ft. Safari w/my 2010 F150 5.4 for the past 4 years in the Southern Rockies (passes to 11k+ feet) as well as the entire length of Baja, Mexico and have all the power I need. BTW, as I fulltime (14 years plus) everything I own is in trailer or truck bed.

The Dodge Eco Diesel uses a Fiat diesel engine. Too early to tell about the reliability. Back in the 70s Fiat imported cars. Their reliability and build quality was terrible. Fiat exited the US market by the late 70s early 80s. Now Fiat is back with their small sedans. I've read their reliability is not the best.
I'd stick with the Ford. I bet there will be a lot of nice used 2012-2014 Ecoboosts on the used car lots if any indications the 2015 model will be in high demand come true.
Me, I'm kinda leery about turbo reliability once out of warranty.

That is a bit of a stretch. VM Motori was an independent diesel engine company. They make well regarded diesel engines. They were purchased by Detroit Diesel. Then Daimler Chrysler bought Detroit Diesel. Then Penske bought VM Motori from Daimler Chrysler. Then Penske sold half of VM Motori to GM. Then Fiat bought out GM's share. Then Fiat bought the rest (in 2013).
I guess we could say that since Fiat owns Chrysler, that all RAM trucks are Fiats too.
I like the VM Motori engine, but I also like the EcoBoost. I wouldn't worry about the turbos, they aren't new technology. Worry about the electronics if anything.

Your concerns are exactly why I'm waiting on the 2015 F150 and I don't have a trailer yet, payload capacity pulling through the Rockies. May I ask what your tongue weight on the 25 is?

Using your logic, all present US cars should be suspect. I remember very few US built cars were reliable in the 1970s. That's when the Japanese gained their foothold in the US market.
