Ford 150 EcoBoost experience

I would appreciate hearing of your experience pulling a 27 or larger AS with the new 2009 Ford 150 EcoBoost. I am particularly interested in your comments regarding pulling in the mountains. The Ford video of the EcoBoost "torture test" and their advertising material seems to show quite an improvement in torque over the most recent 5.4 engine which if true would make it strong in the mountains. Is their hype real or just hype?

We towed a 25' throught the PA mountains - its a 2011 F150 Ecoboost with a 3.73 rear. NO towing issues at all, none. Burned more fuel than I had hoped, 10.4mpg but I did average 64MPH for the entire trip

Its a trick question Trailer length does not represent trailer weight. 2011 '27 can vary in GVW by more than 1,500 lbs. If your refering to one that weighs 9,000 lbs then the tongue weight will likely use up your payload. Keep in mind payload includes people, a full tank of gas, and that arm load of firewood that you'd like to take but may not be able to.

GaRock, you said "with the new 2009 Ford 150 EcoBoost." Did they have the EcoBoost in 2009?

Paiceman, averaging 10.4 would be pretty good if your trip through the PA mountains was a short one and you just went up the hills. How long of a trip was it? Did you include any driving through the flats? My Tundra gets between 11 and 12 on trips but if I just checked a trip going over the Cascades it would be considerably less. I also get much better mileage out on the flats if the wind isn't blowing but I would not post that as my usual average. Hey, I got 18 on a big leg out of Flagstaff when the tail wind was about 50 mph! Ford is really talking up the EcoBoost and it is supposed to get great mileage for the engine size.

The trip was 400 miles, there is very little flat areas threw which we travel on the PA Pike, only around Philly and in NJ and that is high speed very congested with sudden stops at the time we traveled. I know I can get better mileage maybe as much as 12MPG but that would be it. We decided on this truck because of its tow rating and its ability to get good mileage around town without a trailer. In the hills of Western PA we average 16MPG and on the trip (400) miles to go pick the trailer up we average 20MPG with an average speed of 70MPH. On our trip with the trailer I neglected to mention we had a 30MPH average head wind much of the way in addition to the mountains. Out trailer weighted in at 5,895 pounds, we weighed it before we left NJ

I have an EcoBoost SuperCrew Lariat it is one great road machine. I will get 22 mpg running 70 on level terrian sometimes a bit more if I am careful. Sure beats the snot out of my old 2001 Ford 5.4. I want the mileage when I am not towing, I expect to burn fuel when I am pulling a trailer.
