Flying J Propane Question

I see Flying J advertises their propane prices in gallons. The nearest one to me posts $1.19 a gallon. That would cost me around $8.50 to fill a 30# tank, which the local hardware charges me $18. Does Flying J have different rates for portable tanks, or do you get the gallon rate when filling small tanks? If they do I could save a bundle by loading up all five of my portables and filling them there. Tanks for your replies!

propane pricing

Good topic! I don't have any Flying J's nearby, but after attending the last TCT Rally, I found out I was paying double the price for filling my tanks, I was going to a couple rental places and found out a propane supplier is the route to go. I was being charged close to 20 bucks to fill a 25# tank! Duh on my part...

We just got introduced to Flying J's on our trip - They are Super!
Free Dumps and Flushing - Potable Water and Good Prices. The Propane Price is typical of what we found. They have a good national network (Directory) - They are on the Internet too. The Airstream Factory charged us $1.55 to fill us, which was good.
As far as we are concerned when travelling nationally, they are a terrific RV friendly company.

Cool Propane refills

From what I've seen at one Flying J, I'd say.. you should be able to bring propane tanks in your pickup and, refill them.
My only thought was: If it were my tanks, I'd want them kept upright..All of these tanks were laid down on their sides. Which, as you know, isn't good for the OPD...
I've paid on an average 13.00$ per tank.(30#)

Flying J's are the first thing I look for on cross country trips. Great gas prices, stock the AS and well lit for security. Wally World is a great place for stockin' and snoozin' too, in fact they welcome us ( Travellers). Oscar

They do fill small tanks by the gallon!

Took my tanks up there, filled them up and saved a bundle. Filled the truck up too, they were 20 cents a gallon cheaper on regular gas. Well worth the 20 mile drive.
