Florida Panhandle beach trip

We're looking to take a trip in May across the FL panhandle from Pensacola to Apalaciacola or maybe a little farther. Anyone have any recommendations for good A/S friendly campgrounds? I'd like to stay on the beach or as close to the beach as possible. Are there any good state parks in that area?

Thanks to all!
Matt

Alabama beaches not good enough for you?

Click here for a report on campground along the gulf all the way to St.george Island.

We love the Alabama beaches!

We usually go 2-3 times a year, but we visited a few less touristy beaches a couple of years ago when my wife had some continuing ed. down at Sandestin and really loved them. Grayton Beach was our favorite. We were looking to do a little more eastward exploring for off-the-beaten-path gems like that one. I love the beach, but I would rather be able to turn around and not see skyscraper condos everywhere you look.

Try Topsail Beach Resort - on of our favorite campgrounds and the location of the CanOpener Rally each year.

There are sooo many campgrounds along the pan handle. SOme of the nicest are the State ones. Most have some sort of hookups Water and electric some have full hookups.

We like Henderson Beach State Park in Destin, FL. St. Andrews SP in Panama City Beach is also a favorite. Check the State Park website to make sure sites are available.

Henderson Beach is more natural with an "in the dunes" appearance, with camping on the sand surrounded by dune vegetation offering privacy and interest to each site. We prefer this kind of camping experience. However, the pampered side of us also loved Topsail Hill Preserve, with full services, next beach to the east (I believe) where sites are paved, swept, surrounded by lush vegetation which is groomed, absolutely gorgeous "resort" ambiance to the place. Spacious sites and wide roadways encourage bike riding and walking. Henderson is right on the beach; Topsail requires a healthy walk or bike ride to the beach. Both are terrific, just different in their ways. ~G

When you get the Apalaciacola make your reservations for St.George State Park. 8 miles of state beach on the gulf, eagles on the nest, super quiet, beautiful bay, all facilities new after the storm.

I do 2 weeks there each year after The Can Opener.

Beach Fix

If your tring to make it all the way to Apalaciacola...
Don't even stop at St.Andrews.
You will end up staying too long, and have to cut you trip short.

I see what you mean about the link...just sits there sometimes.

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

Grayton Beach state Park has private, wooded sites with water and electric. The park is on the Gulf and Western Lake. Western Lake is great for Kayaking. The beach is nicer than Henderson with beautiful natural dunes. Grayton is locted on Highway 30-A. just east of County Road 283 in Walton County.

Mystic Springs

Not sure if you know or this is a repeat, but here goes:

About 20 miles north of Pensacola is an Airstream Only park. It is called Mystic Springs and is in McDavid, Florida. ph number is 850-256-3280. Park is on Hwy 29. Hope this helps!

The last post is my suggestion. I live in Navarre, FL near Pensacola. I have been to Mystic Springs, its very nice and only $9.00 a night. We have a few RV parks along Highway 98 too, but they are 3 times the cost. Sadly Fort Pickens has not reopened, but over in Pensacola there is also Big Lagoon in Pensacola.

I will vouch for Topsail Hill Reserve State Park in the Sandestin area. They have a beautiful park with water, sewer, electric, and cable hookups. Large sites and a beautiful quiet beach area.

Hello,
I live in the florida pandhandle and you of course have your famous state parks like St Andrews and St George Island, but its hard to get in with out reservations and they are always crowded. My wife and I enjoy Ochlocknee State park in Sopchoppy, I know that sound funny, but its a cool place. It is located on a large river that spills into the gulf. It is east of Apalachicola.
Thanks
James

So far for me,I like going to Henderson,Topsail and even St.Andrews state park.Even though I only live not even 5 minutes from St.Andrews,It is still fun for me and my daughter to go for those 1 or 2 night trips down the road.
These are my favorite campgrounds to go to around this area.

We've got our trip set for the most part.......

Sunday & Monday--Topsail Reserve
Tuesday--St. Andrews
Wednesday and Thursday--St. George
Friday--Florida Caverns on the way back up towards Dothan, AL and home

Still looking for a good place close in to Pensacola for the first night--Saturday. Looking at Navarre Beach resort or Emerald beach resort. Can anyone tell me anything about Heritage Oaks RV Park in Pensacola?
