Florida Gulf Camping, Memorial Day

Howdy all!
Just wondering if you know of a good place to stay Memorial Day weekend near the Gulf, preferably near Destin, and preferably on the beach. Camping on the Gulf is packed, and I'm willing to be most of the other places are as well.

Also, wouldn't be against Costal Georgia either. People on the trip will be me, my beautiful bride, my mother in law, and Miss Pickles (our Boston Terrier).

Any recommendations?

Howdy whacksplat (I'm sure there's a story there...) -- welcome to the forums!

Florida state parks will reserve out ... what is it? You can make online reservations about 8 months or so before. Wouldn'tcha think the lovely Miss Pickles would be your admission ticket?

Welcome from the Florida Panhandle

First off, welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

There are two great State Parks on the Gulf near Destin. They are Henderson State Park in Destin and Grayton Beach State Park in Grayton Beach. Both are great, but I like Grayton a little better; it is also on Western Lake. They may already be booked, but you can check it out at reserveamerica.com.

If this doesn't work, I know a guy that has two full hookup campsites in Santa Rosa Beach about 1/2 mile north of the Gulf. If you are interested, PM me and I will dig out his number.

Brian

Further down, we just spent a few days in Homosassa Springs at Nature's Resort. Itwas very nice. Destin was too crowded and commercial for out taste.

Thanks for the replies guys, decided to go to Destin RV Beach Resort for that weekend.

CanoeStream, there sure is a story about my screen name. a very short, very boring story.

it's geek shorthand for backslash (\) and asterisk (*).

so whack whack bang splat would mean \\!*.

or when i go camping, it's what happens to flies.

well, i won't go there on any other permutations.

There are a few RV parks near Cedar Key, FL as well. Can't remember their names. Might try Google.

We stayed at the Destin RV Beach Resort back in 2004 and it was very nice but we have since found a state park only about 15 minutes or so away from there that is called Topsail Hill State park and it is absolutely awesome ( formerly Emerald Coast RV resort). They even have full hookups with cable , and large sites that are landscaped. They also have a private beach access that is a 30 minute walk from the campground or you can ride the tram to the beach. If you do stay at the Destin RV Resort at least ride thru Topsail while you are in the area and check it out as well as the other two state parks in the area.

Topsail was on the top of my list (pun intended) but ReserveAmerica says that they are full, walk up only. So instead of taking a chance, took the sure thing option with Destin RV Resort, but will take your advice and check it out while we're down there. Thanks!
