I also like LED Lenser. Leatherman bought them a couple years ago and have really improved their quality control and offer the same great warranties you can expect from Leatherman

Have you tried a petzl led flashlight ,they have a whole bunch of models, they offer different lighting intensity , they can tilt to different angles really handy you can also put it upside down for when your working on something above you and also adjust the angle, some have a red led used to keep your night vision ,say you turn your flashlight on to look at something quick then turn it off if you don't have a red light your night vision will take about 30 minutes to come back, they have some that take regular batteries , rechargeable batteries ,etc. also when you have this light on your forehead ,everywhere you look you can see .also you now have two hands free to do whatever . Disadvantage is you look like a winner, my son laughed at me until he used it .now he thinks it's the best flashlight .

Petzl has a great line of lights. I have one for getting the boat back to the dock when the sun set comes early... But a light strapped to the head is not always the most convenient. Small handhelds will always be the go to general light. That said, every one should have a Petzl in the quiver.

The Duracell 3C battery LED flashlights currently available at Costco are fantastic, the brightest I have ever seen and beam spread is variable. There are two light levels and a silly strobe function too. But the lumen rating is over 400, which is about the light put out by a 40 watt incandescent regular bulb. They are seriously bright. I used mine the other day to find a tiny metal watch stem part lost under the seat of my car. In daylight most flashlights don't give enough light to help, especially when your eyes are adapted to outside light. This one does give enough light. Far better than my Mag Light LED flashlights.

They are 2 in a pack for $25 with batteries. Costco also has two cell Duracell flashlights in a 3 pack for about $20. I have not tried them, but sure love the 3 cell ones.

Hi - My names Janet and I'm a flashlight junkie...

Good light porn here: LED Flashlights for Professional, Tactical and General Use by COAST Products

I also like LED Boccie balls, Flying discs and these cool safety flares (which can be used instead of Boccie Balls in an emergency)

I hope some of the wives read this thread so they can understand just how important flashlights are to their men. Guys have been known to spend hours looking at flashlight porn. Or, was that reading porn with flashlights? Either way, you can never have too many. Slim ones, long ones, machined aluminum, titanium, rubberized plastic, waterproof, bulletproof, and key-chain sized. We need them all. Personally, I can not be farther than 3-feet from a flashlight at any time. Nervous? You don't know nervous until you see me without a flashlight, even in the daytime!

Flashlights seem to have roughly the manisfaction of a gun, but are a whole lot safer to have in the nightstand. We carry them on keychains, in the glovebox, toolbox, and every drawer in the trailer and house.

Christmas and birthdays you will hear other wives saying, "Oh, I don't know what to get Henry, he has everything." Don't be stuck, he wants another flashlight - count on it. Don't even hesitate. There's one to fit absolutely any budget from $1 and up! Always include batteries, please!

Three feet !! ??? Holy cow, Mark..... I can't stand not having a flashlight in my belt holster at just about all times ! It's always right there at my side where my right hand can grab it.
Of course there is always a light hanging just inside the door of the trailer. And one in a holster on the inside edge of the seatback in the truck. And one in the toolbox in the back of the truck, and one .....well......you get the picture.

I have to admit one of my favorites is a combo flashlight and 12 million volt stun gun ( Pit Bull ). That stun gun feature sounds wicked. All I have to do is make it snap, crackle and pop for a second, and the dog is heading for cover.

Any takers on seeing what it feels like .. ???

geo

ps, the current generation 2AA Maglite LED lights are nice for having on your belt. Decent light in a small enough package that it fits on your belt and does not get in the way while sitting in a chair or in the truck.

I've done the conversion on old maglites to LED, I've had the next generation maglite LED's, and I have some of the newest ones ( about $20 at Lowes', but around the holidays, they usually have them as a two pack for about the same price )....and the newest ones are the best in the line of evolution.

The switch in them is still not the most reliable though, so I would not want to count on one as a tactical light. But for daily cheap and cheerful carry, they are good enough for me.

ps, the newest ones will blink an SOS sequence too, so that's kind of cool

What a great thread. In the category of "really offbeat, odd, but still pretty cool", I have a single cell AA Tiffany & Co. penlight with a key chain in sterling silver. I guess to read menus. It does not go camping.

And here I thought I was one of the very few with the madness. Is it coupled with Airstream aluminumitus or a stand alone thing?

It was a gift, pre-Airstream, from an older friend of ours whose husband passed away. It belonged to her husband, Al, who was a real character. In addition to the Tiffany penlight, he also carried a black pepper grinder about the size of a film canister with him to restaurants. "Nothing like fresh ground pepper".

I must admit that I am also addicted to flashlights and have been all my life. I always have at least one small LED flashlight on my person. My pride and joy is my Fentix TK35 which has a maximum output of 862 lumen, which is amazing for a light that is only six inches long and weighs six ounces.

The apple does not fall far from the tree. All four of our sons also have deep love of flashlights. Our oldest grandson, who has just turned three, sleeps with his favorite every night.

This is the pocket light that I have been using for the last several years. It is a Rocky brand. I got it as a premium when I purchased a package of two larger Rocky flashlights at Sam's. It is the best pocket flashlight that I have ever owned. It puts out an amazing amount of light for its size, and has great battery life. This little guy is my constant companion.

Watch it, your roll as moderator might be questioned if you make TT ape noises.

What battery does it use? Looks good but appears a little larger than I was thinking about.
