FL parks that are close to the action
I have been trying to find State Parks in FL that have the camping areas close to the main event. If you can't walk to a river, spring, etc then what is the point of camping? I am only interested in full facility parks. The area that interests me most is from central Florida on north through the panhandle.
Parks that fit this bill that I know of so far st St Joe, Manatee Springs, Falling waters but I am sure there are more.

There are two Florida State Parks in the western Panhandle (Central Time Zone) that have direct ocean access They are Topsail State Park where the Annual Can Opener is held. It's a bit of a walk to the ocean, but within the park. This park has full hook-ups plus cable.
Grayron Beach State Park is also in this area on the ocean. This park is also directly on Western Lake. About half their sites are full hook-ups.
Both of the park campgrounds are located in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida 32459.

There many great parks in FL only a few have sewer hookup but all have power/water. Most are very close to the "main event" pick one and check it out. Doubt you will be disappointed.

In addition to moosetags' suggestions, look at Florida Caverns SP, Three Rivers SP, Stephen Foster SP and this might be a bit out of your boundaries, but Ft. Desoto Park in Pinellas County, FL is gorgeous, try to get a site (199, 200-210) right on the water. Lots to walk or bike to.

I really like Ochlockonee River State Park. Doesn't have full hookups, but does have water & electric. The campground is near the river. Nice place to fish. Interesting squirrels too...

Well I can deal without sewer as long as they have a dump station. We are good for a few days without dumping the tanks. I just can't boon dock.

Perry,
They all have nice easy dump stations. Most of the springs are nice. Try to go during the week as they can get crowded with day visitors in season on weekends. St. George in the panhandle is nice. As a florida native, that area is still what our great state was 30 years ago.

I grew up in central FL near Orlando. I have been to many of the springs but have not camped there recently. Rainbow springs was a tourist trap the last time I was there.
I am going to look into that Ft Desoto park. We are going to try to camp during the week.

The Western Panhandle of Florida is still relatively unpopulated. It is much more laid back and slower paced than the Peninsular.
The nine Florida Counties that make up Central Time Florida have only 6% of Florida's total population of 19.32 million people. This area has some of the best beaches in the state that are not overcrowded with the throngs of residents and visitors that are experienced in the Peninsular.
Here are a few pictures of the beach at Santa Rosa Beach in Walton County. There is also a picture of the only known view of the "Florida Mountains" on State Road 81 near Red Bay, also in Walton County.

We are still looking for a Florida State Park that we DON'T like, and we have been to a bunch! So far, they have all been terrific. Myaka SP is on our list to visit in a few weeks, as well as Baha Honda (keys). Fort Desoto (county park) is fabulous, although getting a reservation can be a challenge. Worth the effort, though.

Attached some pics from Ft. Desoto - we were in Site #200 - It was a very entertaining home base with lots visits from the local wild life. (I did not get any pictures of the racoons, but heads up - do not leave food unattended after dark!! This was a wonderful park.

I rented sight 219 which was just about the only one available. I like that it is a dog free loop. Most of the noise issues we have had camping are from dogs. Thanks Alumitater. We also are going to stay a couple days at Florida Caverns State Park. We are going to try to hit Trimble Park in Mount Dora as well. My folks live across Lake Dora. We usually stay in their yard but a real park would be nice. We won't have to listen to the Harleys driving down Lakeshore Drive.
