Five week road trip

My wife, son and I are on the road at last!!!! I wanted to post here as we have passed quite few airstreams on the way, flashing our lights at every passing, and I hope it is some of you! We departed Ft. Myers Florida last week, are currently in the mountings of northern PA and we got here via the Blue Ridge Parkway. We will be working our way south down the coast next week. Here are some pictures, my wife is updating our blog at Leaving the Rut. Links to the first two post of the trip are below;

My wife and I can not believe the trip you are taking! We just completed a trip beginning at Venice/Nokomis Fl to the Top Of Georgia (Airstream Park in Helen, GA). Then to Asheville, NC over the mountains to see the pottery centers. We then proceeded up Rt 80 thru PA, NY, NJ, and CT. Spent 2 weeks in CT before returning same route circling back to the east coast by way of Rt 80, Rt 64 to the coast. Kitty Hawk down to Avon, Hatteras on the Outer Banks. To the main land again to Rt 17 to Myrtle Beach, Merrill Inlet to St. Augustine FL. Then back home to Nokomis FL, Great trip. If you would like to know where we stayed and some feedback we would be willing to share the places and sites we've seen. PM me if you choose.

Have a wonderful time, and be sure to take your time exploring the eastern coastal area.

Go to Edisto Beach state park, if you can, stay a few days at the Beach Campground. One of our favorite places in the world.

My fabulous new son-in-law and his parents are from Puerto Rico, and my daughter and he have been several times. A beautiful country, they tell me.

Travel safely,

Maggie

Maggie,

Thanks for the recommendation on the campground! Edisto Beach State Park looks like a great place to camp, we have just added it to our itinerary!

Where in PR is your son in law from? We are actually from Florida, but my job has had us in Aguadilla, PR for the past 2 years, it is on the north west coast of PR. It is gorgeous!! We will keep you updated to our progress!!

He was actually born in the US, both parents born in PR, and all the ancestors are there......I don't know exactly where, tho.

If you know when you will be at Edisto, might want to make a reservation. It may still be high season there, in which case spots at the beach campground are hard to come by. Kids will be back in school, tho. The drive down to Edisto Island is worth the trip, IMO.

Beaufort, SC, is also lovely, and there is a Gullah History museum there that is worth a stop.

You can get a ferry from St. Marys, GA, back to Florida, if you like ferries. Kinda fun for we who live away from water.

Fort Wilkins State Park in Copper Harbor, MI. The fort is just as the army left it in 1848. Nearby Calumet and Larium are the home of the Gipper, and the area's heritage of copper mining lives on today in artisan works. Thimbleberry jam can't be beat, and in Hancock you can go straight to the pier and buy fresh Lake Superior whitefish.

I'm from Edisto, although I'm overseas at the moment. Be sure you stay at the beach campground. There's an overflow campground just on the wrong side of the causeway that's nowhere near as nice, unless you like gigantic clouds of mosquitos! And be sure to visit Botany Bay while you're there.

My wife and I just picked up our new 28 ft. Flying Cloud last week. We are driving to AZ in October taking the southern route. Can you suggest a picturesque route from VA south and things to do along the way? Things to see and do heading south and in the pan handle of FL would be great to know about.

We stayed in an Airstream Park (Virginia Highland Haven) last week it was absolutely beautiful on top of a mountain in Floyd County, Va. Everyone at that Park was wonderful we learned a lot about our new trailer from them. I would recommend VHH giving it a Five Star Rating.

Thanks for your help!
