First trip with newbie Brother-in-law

Hi all I have a trip planned out for the second week of January going to Lake Havasu for the balloon festival and than on to quartzsite but than I remember that there can be snow and freezing temperatures.I am a little worried for my brotherinlaw we were looking for a small airstream but no luck he bought a new shasta airflyte cute starter but no winter underbelly so what is better during that time we are coming from Bakersfield,Barstow is hwy.40 to Needles Lake Havasu ok or go hwy.10 any tips from those that have gone before would help like to make his trip fun not have him worry about the road thanks

Highway 58 from Bakersfield to Barstow, then I-40 to Needles and south to Lake Havasu are all in snowbird country. Very mild winters with low likelihood of encountering sub-freezing overnight temperatures. No need to winterize for this route, or I-10 either (which is longer and less scenic).

The coldest area you will encounter is probably going through Tehachapi, which is in the mountains and may have frost or infrequent light snow. However, this usually melts right after sunrise. Also, the overnight temperatures are not low enough or of sufficient duration to worry about pipes or water freezing, even if you camp there.

We drive this route a couple of times a year and have never encountered weather that would require winterizing.
