Neil, this qualifies as "easy" for me! (The speed limit in Illinois seems to be 65 - no wonder everyone always speeds! ) I'd like to say that I stayed at the speed limit, but I was NOT doing my usual 80mph!

I'm all settled in at a hotel in Bolingbrook! Yay!

Weekday traffic at Bolingbrook can be very heavy. The east/west collectors wanting to get on north/south routes can slow you down. The traffic signs that estimate travel time are usually very accurate.

If your return trip is the same route and not such a fast pace, you may want to check out the Crate & Barrel outlet warehouse in Naperville. Naperville is a neat town with great shopping -- and a Trader Joe's and a Whole Foods Store and a Penzey's spices -- I could go on and on.

When we first moved to Central Illinois in the late 90's there was only an old gas station and one old fast food restaurant at that exit in Bolingbrook.

Travel safely!

Thanks, Nancy! I wanted to stay in Bolingbrook to see if it would be a good place to light when I pick up J at O'Hare. It seems like it would be -- though I hadn't realized the tolls were coin only! (I do want to see if staying at the airport might work, though.) Good thing they let you pay online, I'm not going to pay til sometime this afternoon to make sure I only have to pay once.

Naperville, huh? I love Trader Joe's! makes me miss CA. There IS an IKEA right here, though, and I love IKEA too.

I'm staying at an aLoft, which is kind of IKEA hipster. An interesting demo of how IKEA casual/inexpensive can also be chic and comfy. Not really into the house music in the lobby though. It looks like they encourage the staff to stand around the lobby laughing and talking, which is kind of fun and helps that hipster atmosphere.

Tonight...Towed Haul!

And a good day to you!

Bolingbrook is a great location. You can Google nearby and find other Trader Joe and Whole Foods locations within a 10 to 15 minute drive (considering traffic). The Crate & Barrel outlet is about 13 miles from your Bolingbrook hotel. Among other restaurants in Bolingbrook, you'll find a Portillo's -- a Chicago favorite for Italian beef, hot dogs and burgers.

We've stayed several times at a Marriott Courtyard on River Road in Des Plaines. They have a shuttle to the airport and to the Chicago "L" train into into downtown. It is very near O'Hare. It's by Rosemont and close to many restaurants that are downtown Chicago extensions. It's also not a bad drive up to Woodfield Mall and the Higgins Rd area by Schaumburg with great shopping, restaurant, and lodging opportunities -- and another Ikea.

I just love Chicago and the suburbs. So much to explore and do. You have many, many great options. I will admit that when we've gone, we aren't usually towing a lovely little Airstream. We only towed our Airstream into the Chicago area once when we went to Zip Dee in Elk Grove Village. Great service and experience there.

Have a smooth travel day!

Hi Nancy! Gorgeous day! (But cold!)

Thanks for the tips! I'm passing them on to J to see what he thinks.

Sitting in Starbucks having a bite and plotting my route - looks like it should be a doddle, unless they get sniffy with me at the border.

Onward and eastward! Go east, errrm, old' lady!

I think we are all having fun following your adventure and your excitement. Sorry to know the winds are so horrific right now. Hopefully this is the worst you'll encounter. Keep your updates coming because we are all riding shotgun. Good luck...keep it between the ditches. Kelly

Just east of Kalamazoo - grey and cloudy! No wind here, though LOTS of cops. I stopped counting after the sixth pullover I saw. Hope to see you soon Ellen!

Headed for Detroit!

Just back from dinner and then dessert with Mr. And Mrs. T and the tadpoles. I'm really having so much fun meeting so many streamers. After picking their brains and Brad's as well, I'm feeling much more happy about my first trip with the Bambino.

CanAm tomorrow, squeeeeee!

Just waved Zlee off on the final leg of her outward trip; in about an hour she'll be at Can-Am and getting to grips with the Bambino.

Embryonic plans afoot for a Can-Am caravan and rally at some point, a collection of Airstreams towed by the most unsuitable vehicles! :~)

There's no way! I'm practically giddy! They must be used to this, though, because they've ruthlessly booted me out of the trailer to go get some lunch while they beat up on the poor little defenseless Jetta to turn it into the bionic VW. I've got before pics, no afters yet. Tonight!

The Pres and VP are nice. Evan is nice. Monica and Peggy are nice. Everybody is nice! (Give people lots of money and they're really nice to you. A good life lesson!)

Timmy horton's for lunch, I guess.
