Yeah, that was pretty much it, Mr. Toad--he figured at least Chicago was on my way, where Toronto would be the exact other direction. Not that I ever mind visiting Toronto, either!

Now I remember, you have one of those super duper 7.3L diesels, so 34 mpg is definatly possible. Sorry about that. I forgot.
Zlee
Sounds like you are still going- "damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead". I will be sending good travel karma your way and I know that there will be lots of Airstream help along the way on your route, so whatever you need to deal with, I am sure that you will be fine.
Dan

Thanks Dan! Yes, regardless of the weather, I still have to pick up my partner in Chicago. We'll get the hitch work done at the very least and have the trailer with us at the very least, and we're prepared for hopefully anything! (touch wood!)

Are you going through Nebraska or Kansas? If you come by this way we have extra rooms or driveway with 20 amp for the heat strip and furnace. I remember my trip to pick up our Bambi. 1200 miles one way to Williamsburg VA! It was great until I was 300 miles from home and got into an ice/snow storm! When I got home my nerves were shot but I had a martini waiting for me! . PM me if you come by KC, we have easy highway access. We're happy for ya!

Bless you! I'll let people know which way I'm going, it'll all depend on the weather! I may very well take you up on that, I've a feeling cutting down to the south is our likeliest option...

Watching the weather . . .
Zlee, safe travels to you. I'm sure you're watching the weather. Today is not an unusually bad winter day in Northern and Central Illinois, however it may not be fun towing.
Wind is probably worse further south than around Chicago. However, blustery winds, fog and rain are words that are in the Chicago area forecast. Snow showers are in the forecast too but no mention of accumulation.
We're 2.5 hours south of Chicago and have westerly winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph right now.
We thought that towing in the rain and wind would be a rare event; however, that sure hasn't been the case over the last 5 years!
Be safe,
Nancy Mac

Excellent, ta Nancy! I'm using the trip up to London to pretest the route at least partway, and nat'l weather app says going 70/36/80 should be snow free (thus far). Weirdly, Port Huron is clearer than Detroit, but I'm headed for Chatham, so I'll be going off piste there.
Salina now, headed into KC next!

Thanks for lunch! It was great meeting you and seeing how excited you are about your new AS! It brought back old memories when I went to go get our Bambi almost two years ago! I can't wait to see all the pictures and hear how your journey goes. Please don't hesitate to call if you need a place to stay.

The snow's all gone and we have +10C (not sure what that is in old money) and some strong winds. A little bit of snow forecast this coming week but nothing dire. Looks like you'll have a good run, in this direction anyway.
