There is a private campground on the south side of I 80 ...I want to say its east of the I55 interchange. I have no Idea what the name of it is. It seems to be mostly longer term worker types...but i see some pretty high end MOHOs in there from time to time. That might be less miles. From there you could jump on I55 north or I355 north to work your way up to O'Hare. Not nearly as pretty, but maybe more convenient.

I know Indiana Dunes SP is open year round if you take 80-94. It's probably 1 hour to Midway, a bit longer to O'Hare. Beautiful campground, though.

He hasn't sent me the flight info, so not sure which airport yet. I'll be checking campgrounds out if he's at all interested!

Probably O'hare.....i don't THINK any flights from London go into Midway. I don't think a 747 (or similar size) can land on those short runways. I also don't think British Airways uses Midway (if he's using them).

I think he's flying AA, as BA doesn't fly into Chicago during the winter or summat. I'd think it'd be O'Hare, yeah.

Looking at some of these CGs, I hope he wants to stay in the trailer!

He'd like to stay in a hotel. *sigh* I guess I'll look for one somewhere around Gary/Hammond...

A little further west would be less congested a bit. Somewhere around the I355/I80 interchange. I355 is pretty new...like 2 years. So if your atlas is older it might show it ending at I88. It goes all the way through and is actually the only pleasure to drive in the area. Big, wide and new. Easy too get up to O'Hare and back, and right on your way.

Hi
We live just east of London Ontario and have bought 2 Airstreams from Can Am.
We have made a few trips to Wisconson crossing the border at Sarnia/Port Huron without any problems.
On our Christmas trip to Georgia we crossed at Windsor/Detroit there was lots of construction around the bridge with very narrow lanes and sharp turns we will not cross there again.
Enjoy your new trailer.
Dave

Excellent! I'll plan on 355 then. Davadar, anks for the tip -- now that you mention it, I remember that my sales guy said my paperwork routes through Port Huron! I wonder if that's why?

Next question: out of Port Huron, is it better for a newbie to go on I96/94 or I69/96/196? They seem much of a muchness to me in terms of time and mileage, but I don't know the traffic patterns through Detroit or Grand Rapids.

We have always gone 96/94 without a problem. This time of year you should check the road conditions for the best route. LOTS of Snow in London now.

I saw that. *sigh* I've left a LOT of time before I have to be back in Denver for a home and garden show for work. Hopefully I've left enough -- and certainly it's not enough for being stuck somewhere because of a snowstorm. My B plan is to find somewhere to leave the trailer and come back for it if there's huge weather issues.

Zlee

It is one thing to drive a vehicle from London, Ont. to Colorado in the middle of winter. Heck, I am from up north (Detroit) and I am always up for an adventure and never hesitate to drive anyplace in spite of the weather. However, for a newbie to consider towing a new Airstream over the route you are considering in the middle of winter may not be a great idea. Other than being excited about your new trailer, is there a reason that you can not undertake this journey when the weather is better? If it is not necessary to do this, then it is necessary not to do it imho.

Dan
