First Trip!

My husband and I are going on our first trip this week in our new (used) 2006 Airstream Safari 23' named "Ohana"! We are so excited to start one of many journeys in our Airstream. We're taking a short, three-day trip to a small town in the Texas Hill Country with our two dogs, Ruggles and Wilson. Do you have any suggestions for us first-timers on what to make sure to take, things to keep in mind, etc.?

A common mistake is confusing the stabilizer with leveling the trailer out. There are four one on each corner, use only to stabilize do not use to lift the trailer to level it out. Otherwise enjoy your first trip, it will be an adventure and you will building memories for a lifetime.

We keep a 3 column spreadsheet and list all the things that we will be taking on each trip. Have a column to checkoff that item when it's loaded in the trailer or the box to go in the trailer. As you get the list refined you can list items as to kitchen, bath, misc and so on. This will reduce the times when you are mile from home and the question comes up, did you bring so and so. After the third time turning around for "forgotten stuff" you make the list.
You will always be adding or subtracting from the list, and it reduces packing stress.

Hi and welcome to the Airstream community. I think you will enjoy traveling in your new trailer. There are lots of things people bring with them, and lots of things people never use. Many of us bring too much. I guess we were "be prepared" scouts in our youth.

Be sure to tell us how your first trip goes.

David

It may be a little late but you might want to get a copy of "The Newbies Guide to Airstreaming". Lots of good info.

A couple of lawn chairs. Mat to wipe feet. Think about what you use in the house for two or three days. You probably won't need as much stuff as you think. Sense of humor was good advice.

Most of all....HAVE FUN!

don't confuse fresh water intake with flush water intake......very very very bad mistake, been there done that sorta. We were within 1' of never camping again.

When my husband and I started our trips we chose destinations within 2-3 hours from home. This gave us plenty of time to "figure stuff out" and still have an enjoyable time.
He does the outside chores and I do the inside ones. Departing check-off list helps.

Oh the world of air streaming....is there anything better?
