First long trip-new truck!
Just got back from our first long trip (300 miles) with the Excella 25 and the Brand new Duramax /Allison. Weather was beautiful, warm and sunny all weekend at one of our favorite campgrounds; Moose Hillock in Warren NH. If you are in New England, and have kids, this is a great place to camp. Large, wooded sites, nice and level, and a huge pool with a water slide for the kids. Nice and quiet at the sites, but lots of activity at the pool area, just right for us!
Well, it is now clear to me why people like to tow with ¾ ton vehicles. I thought I had a pretty good setup with the ½ ton Suburban! The control and solid feel of the upgraded chassis is just something you have to feel to believe. Whether you get a diesel or not, I believe the major benefit is in the chassis and related components, that is where the real difference is. For anyone towing over 5000-6000 pounds and is considering a new TV, get the ¾ ton. You won’t regret it.
A couple of minor tweaks still need on the camper; the water heater is till not burning right. It ran ok all weekend but the flame is “sputtering” and loud. Still needs adjustment. I will have to look at that soon as we are leaving on a long trip next week. Other than that the camper was great, we are loving the AS more and more as we get to use it; very comfortable and really does tow nice.
