First Extended Trip, 2008 Safari 25 Lounge

Returned from our 12 day trip from Mississippi to Baltimore and return. We had a blast and the new Safari performed excellently in a number of temperature environments (40-90 degrees). No problems whatsoever. Turned about 3,000 total miles (2200 towing) in all sorts of conditions and stayed at 5 different campgrounds. Pulled the grades through the Smokey Mountains with no problems (Nashville, Knoxville, Chattanooga) with my 2007 1/2 ton GMC, 5.3 liter V8. Averaged 11.5 mpg in tow haul mode. We love this Safari!

Thanks for the report and the great pictures. Looks like you had a really fun trip.

I especially was happy to hear your fuel mileage report as we have a simular truck with the same drive train, and recently upgraded to a larger 25 ft trailer, but have not pulled it any distance to speak of.

Thanks

Hi Sounds like a great trip . I have a 99 25 foot Safari.I pull with the same truck. I love the tow haul mode. I've pulled mine recently thru the Ozarks in the heavy rains after hurricane Gustaf . NO problems pulled thru the semi's and the mountains like a dream. I also have a Hensley hitch..Happy trailing to you

I hearily agree!!! The AS is so much fun to travel with. We did our first extended trip this summer (October) also. Spent the week ends before learning how to do it and then headed for historic Virginia through the mountains. We average between 11.5 and 12.5 mpg towing - 16.5-19 with no load on. I was hoping for anything that was double figures and we always got it! It is so easy to forget there is a trailer following because of the ease of towing. We pull ours with a 2004 Nissan Armada (SUV) with about the same engine but probably a little shorter wheelbase. Mine is 122" but a dream pulling our 25' International. We spent about 30 nights on her this summer hauling her 2,000 miles on 11 different trips. What a delight! We were so disappointed that is was time to put her away for the winter. Too many things on our schedule during October and November so she's winterized and tucked away until next spring. It'll be tough waiting that long but we'll try. Continue to enjoy yours - maybe our paths will cross - we need a rally for beginners to share our experiences.
