We have the Allstate Road Help Insurance which includes the KOA card. We have not found a bad one yet.

We stayed in our first KOA by mistake. We had called another campground for a 2 night reservation near Williams, AZ, to visit the Grand Canyon. That was the mistake. When we got there, that was the mistake! Awful place. Trash, undeveloped sites with weeds and some unknown electrical hookup. We left and found a KOA down the road. what a nice place. Friendly staff. A dog run. Everything worked well. After that we stayed in 4 KOAs on our trip back home, one night stands only. Never disappointed us.

The Lakeside KOA in Ft. Collins, CO is a great place. Just north of Ft. Collins at the junction of 287 and 24 is another KOA that is nice.
The KOA in Cortez, CO is also very well kept.

The Flagstaff, AZ KOA is NOT a nice place. The staff is incredibly RUDE and the sites are hard to access. The tables are dirty. Sites are not level.

No experience with the Ft. Collins or Flag KOAs, but we visited the one in Cortez (use dump station), and it was quite nice!

We have stayed at several KOA's, best view goes to Buena Vista, Co. get up in the morning and see the Collegiate peaks, best service is definitely Hot Springs National Park. Sante Fe, Kerrville, San Antonio, and Frederick's were all nice well kept parks. We had noisy neighbors in San Antonio and the staff was there straight away and took care of the issue.

It's good to see some positive posts concerning KOA, we've been using them for twenty years. Being related to an owner and past president of the KOA Owner's Association, I can can tell you, there are two sides to every bad campground experience, especially if one has driven a little too far that day. Just sayin'.

I kind of think KOAs are pretty much like all the rest of them: The decision to become a franchised member is a business decision, not entirely unlike joining the Good Sam network or any other. In some cases, it makes sense; in others, it's a waste of money. None of which has a whole lot to do with the quality of the campground.

The only thing it has to do with the quality of the campground is that KOA apparently enforces some minimum standard of serviceability and cleanliness.

We have stayed at a lot of campgrounds. Most campground owners are nice and most campgrounds are well kept. But we have stopped at a few that were so bad we left. One in particular that I remember (rated 2 diamonds in a national campground directory) had inoperative electric outlets at the two sites I tried, and all the toilets in the restrooms were overflowing. We got our money back and left. I have never seen anything like that at a KOA.

We have found KOAs around the country to be generally and predictably decent.

Too expensive for every night for us, but on the short list of campgrounds we look for near big cities we want to visit and/or when we want to sit a few days with cable TV, laundry facilities, all the amenities, etc.
