Finger Lakes questions
Wife and I will be going to the Finger Lakes region of New York this coming Sunday for several days with a side trip to Niagara Falls. Any sugestions on where to go? We are looking for small towns with antiques and scenery. Since we have no current agenda, we are open to most anywhere in the area.

I second Ithaca. College town (makes me feel young!) with an occasional fair/farmers market and the amazing Moosewood restaurant. I'm not a vegetarian but their food is fantastic! You can also spend a day driving around the lakes and visit wineries and some antique shops. We love that area!

Gary, best to make Niagra Falls a day trip. The local KOA is about $75/ night. Jim

We stayed in Thurman State Park, small sites, few with power, but just beautiful. The scenery is pretty, a ton of wineries, and my nephew is local WNeY news anchor, Joa Millillo.
There is boating, biking, hiking, shops, roadstands, and more. We like to wander...and it is great place for that.

Watkins Glen State Park
I did not camp there but made the hike up the glen from the downtown. It's a paved trail through the narrow, winding, wet glen. I loved it. Go early in the morning if possible to beat the crowds.
Thumbs up to Ithaca for city activities. I also enjoyed Skaneateles (sp?) for a less urban environment. Great food and a quaint town. Not into antiques so can't recall specifics, but almost every small town up there has at least a few shops.

Letchworth State Park
letchworth state park - Yahoo! Image Search Results
Letchworth State Park is the "Grand Canyon" of the East. Also close by is the Silver Lake Drive-In Theatre, one of the few in the country still open. Surrounded by small towns and located between the Finger Lakes and Niagara Falls.

We have enjoyed Sampson State Park many times.
Watkins Glen and the Seneca Wine Trail are worth checking out.
Letchworth SP and the Glen Iris Inn are also very popular destinations in the area.
Antiques opportunities are everywhere!!
There is a KOA on Grand Island, about 10mi from the Falls. Reasonable and well kept.
Have fun!!!
Bob

Bob, I was referring to the KOA on Grand Island. I guess I should catch up to what is reasonable now. Jim

Good shout on Letchworth State Park; not too far from us in Ontario and is definitely going on my "must visit" list.
