Glad you enjoyed the place where I grew up. Long before there were orchards and vineyards, tobacco was the crop of choice. Slowly orchards took over and vineyards followed.

Tobacco?! Trying to think if we saw any mention of that at the orchard museum, but think not. Thanks for adding to my knowledge.

As I understand it, tobacco was a major cash crop until the fruit industry ramped up. Apparently, the tobacco crops attracted a type of parasite that was harmful to the fruit trees and so tobacco was phased out in fairly short order. I think I'm remembering that right. When I was a kid, I used to find empty tobacco tins scattered around some of the old gold mining camps that are tucked away out of sight.
