Favorite California Destinations

What's your favorite California destination and why?

Include campground, amenities, and things to do in the area.

Depends...

If I want to be near the ocean:

Refugio SB just north of Santa Barbara.
Kayaking, sufing, hiking, bicycling, great beach in a cove, grass for kids, one concrete basketball area if so inclined.
No hookups

Morro Bay SP
Lots of trees, across the street from the bay, Kayaking, surfing, bikes, hiking, etc. Some 3way hookups, some limited hookups.

Near Mountains:

Wrights Lake
Off Hwy 50, above Placerville
Warm, shallow lake, Great for kayaking, relaxing, hiking.

Loon Lake
Off Hwy 50, above Pacerville
Larger alpine lake, can be good fishing, lots of granite. Deep lake, cooler for swimming but not bad in late summer. Beautiful area. Wind can come up on the lake in PM, affecting paddle sports.

Huntington Lake
East of Fresno. Nice, fairly large lake with fishing, boating, bike and hike. Lots of pines. Quiet.

I have more, those are my favorites.

Dave

Tim, ours is Lassen Volcanic National Park. We enjoy boondocking during the summer weekdays at Mazanita Lake on the Northside of the park.
Lassen Volcanic National Park - Campground Reservations (U.S. National Park Service)
For me it makes a nice base camp while we explore the many trails within the park. For our son Collin, guaranteed snow ball fight at the peak trail parking area at 8,300 ft. in July
