Favorite activities while camping

While there are certainly many interests and varied spans of time for camping, what are some of the activities that lend themselves to Airstreaming beyond camping itself? Boating, biking, fishing come to mind. I've read quite a bit about full-timing and work camping and working on the road but I am curious about the various recreational activities that may be enhanced when combined with camping.

Hiking, as long as the trails aren't too difficult for my bum ankle that doesn't bend the way it's supposed to.
Kayaking, protected flatwater only, because even after a couple of years of off-and-on experience I still only paddle like a wounded duck. I recently bought an Oru folding kayak that's remarkably easy to transport and only weighs 26 pounds.
And when hiking and kayaking aren't available, I can keep myself amused by sitting in the shade and catching up on my reading.
If I'm only on the near edge of nowhere instead of in the middle of it, I might drive into town and see what they have to offer, such as museums or tours.

We also check for festivals and fairs around our travel destinations. Whether it is arts & crafts, hot air balloons, music, or food competitions, a good time can generally be had either in the afternoon or evening. Balloons in the early morning are a sight to see.

the options are quite literally endless and each day provides a new list of things one can do when camping. We like using our trailer so we don't end up going to the same place each time we take a trip which is the case for instance when you own a vacation home. We like to explore new places for what they uniquely offer in terms of sights, activities, venues, restaurants, etc.. In the end it's sort of like the time someone asked us what they should do when they visit Santa Fe, NM (we grew up in that general area) and the answer is simple - Santa Fe and most other places you visit are best self-discovered so you end up doing what suits you, the weather, the overall environment & terrain, and your interests the best.

Biking, walking, sitting and listening to the quiet, reading, and at night, stargazing. In a couple of weeks, I should be where it is dark enough to see some galaxies.

We start the day with a cup of coffee and newspaper (via MIFI), followed by breakfast. That is usually followed by making the trailer livable for the day. Mid-morning usually finds us riding the bikes, taking a walk, reading or practicing some music. After lunch, a nap is usually in order, followed by a trip to town or to view an interesting local feature or event. We try to always get home for Happy Hour (that's 5:00 PM for us), followed by dinner, usually at the trailer. After eating, we are ready for another walk, usually around the campground, chatting with fellow campers and/or attending a campground-organized event. By the time this is over, if we have the time, inclination and 120-volt electricity, we might watch a movie. Otherwise, it's time for showers and beddy-bye.

Other activities, depending on where, when and the 'toys" we brought along, include kayaking, swimming, trailer and TV maintenance, looking for birds and mammals and hooking up with folks to play music.

Jeez, that makes me tired! I think it's time for a nap!

This is an interesting question. When I first moved to Texas and tried to describe what lake life was like in the summer in New England, the question was always, "But what do you DO at the lake?" Only when the film On Golden Pond came out could I point to something and say... that's what you DO!

I really like camping and I tend to just let the DO part take care of itself should I get bored with "just" camping!

Beware

Most california state parks and national parks do not allow dogs on trails even if they are leashed. They allow mtn bikes and horses though. Seems unreasonable. Pet peeve of mine. But I like everyones ideas

Interesting. Fortunately, Oregon state parks do allow leashed dogs on hiking trails and most allow unleashed dogs on beaches.

Not yet mentioned - my favorite - photography! Nature, flowers, pets, people, sunsets, etc. The list is endless. Fun to download and select only the best ones to keep (after dark). Then label and catalog them. I also enjoy journaling every evening (on computer).
