We finally got a chance to do a quick loop further North into Maine. The colors were good - but due to it being overcast all day they were not spectacular. I did spot a 25'-28' Airstream International - looking very sad (---but "alltogether" based on a quick look at 55 mph!) - in front of a home off Route 151 just West of Parkman, Me. There wasn't any good place to turn around with the dually so I didn't check it out any further. It was sitting down on the coupler - probably having sunk into the ground. It definitely had that "uncared-for" look that you hate to see on an Airstream. I spotted a house I'm interested in - in that same area - so I may be heading back tommorrow.

You've all inspired us, so we're looking for a way to get away and camp for at least a long weekend with some friends of ours from North Missouri. I was just at B&N and found one of my favorite Falcon Scenic Drives books. We have used these all through Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho, but this one is for our very own back yard, the Missouri Ozarks. Think I'll go settle in somewhere while DH watches the Cardinals and Mizzou on the tele and plan an outing. Here in the middle of the state, we've been gaining some gold (walnuts, hickory, locusts) and purple (ash) color, but suddenly, the reds of our dogwoods and maples are starting to show. It won't be long before we'll be full ablaze. Looks like a good fall leaf year-maybe because of the unusual 18+ inches of rain in July and August. More later after reading my book and finding a new Ozark discovery!

Fall Color in U.P. Mi.

We ran into this handsome park ranger to ask where the best color could be found. He sent us over to the Lake Gogebic area south of the Porcupine Mts.
We told him he looked familiar...like Smokey The Bear...he said he gets that all the time. He is Smokey Da Bear, a distant relative.

We counted 11 Airstreams in 1700 miles!

Fall colors - Door Co WI

Just returned from a weekend at Door Co. Colors are good. Worth a trip if you had time.

Talking

Just returned from 3 days out in Southern Wisconsin's Kettle Moriane area. The fall colors are peaking right now up there. Beautiful. Last night hit 37 degrees but there was no wind, so, no need for the heater while we were sleeping. Upper 60's during the days.
Our base was a private campground named Country View in Mukwonago. The camping area is high on a hill overlooking the deep valleys to the south and west, all blaze with color.
Too bad it's time to put the old girl to bed for the winter.

Fall in Central New York

I was home visiting the wife and kids this weekend, and yesterday we took the wife's Caravel out for a day on the road, a good old country auction, apples at a road side stand, and the statelands on the way home. Here are a few pictures we took, if I can get them loaded.

Better late....

Haven't popped into the forums lately, but I've got some time now!

A good bit of New Hampshire has rolled into "peak season". We actually got to take a trip a few weeks ago. 6 days in Pittsburg New Hampshire. At the time it was just beginning to peak. The moose were definitely starting to rut too. One bull was sighted with half his rack already broken off. But for the moment he has a cow with him, so I'd hate to see the looser!

We took too many photos on what will probably be our last trip to Pittsburg this year for camping. Temperatures in the mid-30's for the mornings, mid-60's for the afternoons.

Hopefully I've attached photos correctly, but we'll have to see. They don't seem to be coming up in the preview. If not I'll try again later.

Well, if anyone up in NH/VT/NY wants to go for a last-chance leaf-peeping and hiking trip this weekend, let me know via PM. It was already past peak last weekend in the Adirondacks but central and southern VT still look good.

we're pretty much done for the season, too.

Here's a shot of the camper, still in its summer parking spot, overlooking the swamp maples. (which actually look much more vibrant in person. the camera just doesn't quite capture it.).

Ah-h-h-h-! Just gorgeous, all! Are we lucky folk or what? Airstreams for traveling, natural wonders for enjoying! Keep those notes and photos rolling in, please! By the time the Northlands are past peak, the midlands and south should be turning glorious. I haven't left home, but I feel I've taken a road trip to remember, thanks to all of you Haven't given up yet on stealing a long weekend soon!

didn't take any pictures but the colors in eastern Kentucky mountains were awesome. last week we took I-64 east to the Daniel Boone state park twin knobs camp ground . $14 per night.was a nice park next to a large lake. i put this one on my must visit again list. the colors haven't changed yet. but i would bet next week after the cold front passes we will see the colors start to change. our colors should be at the same time as north georgia.
