**Extra Fuel**

At 7 miles per gallon I've noticed that the gas gauge drops rapidly while traveling.

Do you travel with an extra can of fuel in case you run out?

I travel with a 1 gallon container of fuel on long trips, but normally if its just around the house I never carry extra fuel.

Talking Don't need to!

I don't need to, all of my tow vehicles have the low fuel warning light which is attached to my wife...the minute she realizes it is on...I get no rest until we refuel!

I don't know why, but the annoying low fuel warning (not related to spouse) on my Audi starts buzzing when I get just below 1/2 tank. The dealer says it can't be fixed.

Yes, diesel

I carry 3 1/2 gallons of diesel on long trips. My truck has only a 26 gallon tank. The extra fuel saved me from buying some real expensive diesel a time or two and saved a possible run out on my recent trip. I refil the can at truck stops where the price is better.

I traveled from TN. to Stone Mountain, GA. the first of the week and came back yesterday evening. I thought about carrying an extra 5 gal. can and then I remembered that GA. gas is cheaper than here. I started with a full tank, gassed up in Atlanta and then topped off north of Atlanta before coming back Friday. Like Pahaska, my tank holds 26 gallons but the 8.1 didn't do too bad traveling 67 MPH. My mileage was 10.75 and 10.90 mpg during the trip which I couldn't complain about.

Stone Mountain Camping ground was excellent as were the activities. Free coffee, orange juice, hot chocolate, donuts, watermellon, cereal were available each morning and it was quiet. We spent one day at Six Flags Over GA. and had a great time. I will post some pictures as soon as I get them resized.

Towing with a diesel van we don't like the idea of carring fuel in the same compartment with us. Lowest we have gotten was down to was two gallons or 20 miles left before we filled up. When you don't know where the next station is and your that low it is a real nail biter.

If we have learned anything it is that ANYTHING can be fixed.

When the tank is half full (or is that half empty?) ... we start looking for fuel.

I think Petunia and Aaron's wife are related.

My Suburban holds 42 gal, and the mileage is between 10 and 13mpg towing. I usually don't carry fuel for the truck, unless I go to Mexico. Then I carry a 3.5 gal gas can, for extra gas and for the generator.

This question can come down to an outside factor making the determination too. I tow with an extended cab pick-up so my extra gas is in the bed of the truck which is outside the passenger compartment. If I had to tow with another type vehicle that made it necessary for the fuel to be carried inside, then the answer would be no-way.
