If you have a little extra time and don't mind driving through small towns then the loneliness highway is great.
Thanks.

I've been on Route 50 east of Cincy, but never west of. I used to take 50 to get to and from college. If you get the chance, check out the sites in southeastern Ohio. Old man's cave, Ash cave, and the Hocking Hills region are quite beautiful. I don't know about RV campgrounds though, sorry.

I prefer driving the long and slow way, but I was in a hurry for my work.

Oak Grove Truck Stop

The service plaza in Lawrence is closed for repairs, and the next one is just east of Topeka. Luckily, I made it to Topeka. I was sweating bullets though, as I knew that there were very limited stops between Topeka and Manhattan and whether or not they had diesel I was unsure of.

Hi Woody, have enjoyed your thread....I grew up in a small town east of Kansas City called Oak Grove. It was a quiet little town that has been transformed into a huge truck stop on I 70 and a WalMart.....the old downtown area is so sad...buildings catch on fire.....what is that about?...or stand empty. Anyway for all you I 70 travelers it is a good place to stop to buy gas before hitting Kansas City and say hello to my family and friends who are still there. paula

Paula,

Thanks.

I did a job in southwest Missouri last summer, and fell in love with the area. I just might move there when I retire. Ha Ha Tonka State Park is absolutely awe inspiring.

Well, Paula, Oak Grove is getting a facelift w/ new buildings including a Sonic and two O'Reilly Auto Parts! They're widening Main Street from the interstate clear to downtown, too. Speaking of downtown, there are now three bars. Kelly Jo reopened the bar just south of 12th street. She's not a red head so it's safe to go in there!

If you haven't been there in 8 or 10 years, you'd never know it.

end of the road

All,

I had to go to the RV parts store the other day for a toilet ring, and decided to have a look around. There was a nice SOB there, a 30 footer with two slideouts. I was instantly in love with it, and it was inside my price range too.

They took my Airstream on trade, and tonight will be my last night sleeping inside the iconoclastic aluminum tube.

I'm quite divided on this, and at times I feel like a traitor. However, I know that my fulltiming lifestyle will work better in a larger travel trailer.

I'll continue to occasion this forum, as there is still much to learn. And when I get the chance, I'll get another Airstream.

Many thanks,

Woody

I will be there the end of April......rumor has it that the widening is so the trucks can come through the town from US 50 to avoid the scales....not tell me that is not true.......

Also will that terrible dangling stoplight in the middle of town be replaced with something that looks a little better? paula

An SOB! Nevermore!

Actually, I'm glad you found something that works for you and hope to see more posts from you. Hope you'll be back in aluminum sometime soon.

They've been avoiding the scale (they call it Interstate F) since I moved to Lone Jack 10+ years ago. There is nothing in the state law that requires a commmercial vehicle to take a route that goes by a scale-they are required to stop if they do approach an open scale.

I think it will be a long time befpre they end up improving the s curves south of town, however.

Thanks Bob.

I haven't had the opportunity to shoot my .303 in quite a few years. I'm not even sure if I can get ammo for it anymore. I really enjoy that gun, but it just sits now that I have a .300winmag with a Leupold scope.
