Elvis - Here we come.....
We are off to Memphis, TN for a long weekend and will be in T. O. Fuller State Park for 2 nights. Gotta go see the house of the "King" of Rock and Roll - Elvis Presley.
Anyone been to this park?
Comments please, we are not familure with the area.
Gotta go see the ducks at the Peabody, and Beale Street, etc. A quick anniversary weekend.
See ya down the road.
Mike

Thankyouverymuch
Ya know...
There is a campground just behind the Heartbreak Motel.
It is across the street from his house.
Even if you do not get a spot...go check out the motel.
Is very Elvis inside.
And walk around to the pool too.

Must go to the Rendezvous. Nice romantic rib place. Well, maybe not romantic, but darned good. Right across the street and down an alley from the Peabody.

We looked at that one - it's so tightly packed together and we like the state parks we have been in. City parks and private parks like that really don't allow you to open the awning much without being up against the other trailer. They have openings and if the state park does not look good or we hear different than we can switch.
Thank you, ah, thank you very much............

From what I remember - its been a while and there was lots of beer back then - Oxford is not on the way. You're off the highway some, but we will be passing by about 1:30 in the afternoon on our way up on Saturday.
What you got planned?

I went to Graceland around 8 years ago while taking a Remington Law Enforcement Armor's School in Memphis. The kitchen reminded me of the house I grew up in during the 60's but we didn't have a pizza oven like Elvis did. The Jungle Room will knock your socks off and the room with the pool table is not shabby either. This is a must see attraction. Have fun.

Camping under the Influence of Rock & Roll
Always carry a Sharpie to wright on walls...
Now don't cange your reservations just for this,
The campground is not a country setting like you said, but...
Location is prime...you can walk to ticket booth of house tour,
Cable TV has two channels devoted to pure Elvis movies 24/7,
They also have suttle bus that will take you to Beale St and back.
With stop offs at Sun Studio...(really try to make time for the Sun tour)
That bus ride will look really good after a long night on Beale
Sun Studio...
This is 'The' mic
Bike was a good way to get around
Figure out a way to sneek over to motel swimming pool, will be worth it.

One thing to remember, and we learned this the hard way. If you are planning to go to Mud Island, don't wait till the Monday holiday. Mud Island is closed on Mondays. We were down there Memorial Day weekend with a planned departure date on Tuesday. The folks down at the visitors center on the riverfront lamented that they had turn away lots of folks that day.

Memphis, TN
Alton Brown of the Food Network was there this spring on his Feasting on Asphalt program, and visited some interesting places. Here's a link to his webpage that covered Memphis:
AltonBrown.com
All these places are in Garmin's POI data base on their units.

Hey Clancy,
I don't know much about that state park...stayed at the Graceland RV park (in a tent, during a thunderstorm ). But if you like classic cars, definitely go to Elvis' auto museum. It is across the street from Graceland. It is worth a visit. All of these pictures make me wish I was back there!

We were there at the beginning of the summer and stayed at Tom Sawyer campground. Campground was fine. We toured Graceland and had a great time. Do all the exhibits including the Jump Suite museum. Best ribs I have every had at Rendezvous Ribs, it is in a back alley behind some dumpsters. It is rated as one of the top rib joints in nation, get there early. Do the Duck Ride which is always fun. Don’t waste your money on the Gibson Factory tour, not worth it, the store is ok and they have an Airstream Guitar for sale look on the back wall. Have Fun.
Oh one more item we did see a fish restaurant, which offered to adopt your Billy Bass and had and entire wall of Billy Bass. If you bring one in you get a free meal it is near Rendezvous Ribs.

A Great Time
Thank You to everyone who posted advice here and in their PM's. We looked at everything and chose to stay in MS at Wall Doxie State Park - a GREAT location, I cannot say enough about the park - well kept, clean facilities, nice people, and easy access to Oxford, Memphis (TN), and other northern Mississippi locations. Sorry Rebel beck - the word is out on your secret private campground......
Elvis Lives...... in an Airstream

Shhhhh! Mike you should not have told. Yes it is a great campground and only about 30 mins. from the house so a great way to get out of town fast and enjoy the outdoors.

I know this is an old post but I hope I get a response. So can anyone tell me what the rate was to stay in the rv park?? we're going to Memphis in May and I just saw that they have that rv park behind the heartbreak hotel. I am a HUGE Elvis Fan. This is like 10 Christmases all in 1 for me. I won't be able to sleep!! I know the rates are different at different times of the year but just to give me a general idea. I can't wait!!

Can't help on the rates, but Memphis in May? It doesn't get better than that!!! Each plenty of salads and fruit before you go, because you'll have your choice of the best BBQ. Memphis in May is where to be! and their college basketball team's not too doing too shabby this season.
