Durango CO - will I freeze?
I am planning a trip to Durango for a couple of weeks arriving on 4/25/2009. Is that a little to early to miss possible freezing temps a night Would and arrival date of 5/8 or 5/15 be better. I don't mind the cold temps but would like to avoid freezing if possible. I know there is no way to say for sure what the weather will be, we have actually had freezing temps here in Houston in April.
Thanks
Don

May would be better, less chance of snow or sub-freezing temps. As you say, you never know- you might be fine in late April. Either way, check out Pagosa Springs too, a little further east- real pretty country, especially north of town by Williams Reservoir, with Nat. Forest camp sites. Have a good trip! -tim

I don't know about freezing temps, but some parks aren't open until a certain week in May, so call to check first. We may see you in our travels as we plan to go in May.

We're further south of Durango, though higher up. Our last freeze is usually at the beginning of June. It would be surprising not to have mornings with freezing weather in April or May.
Of course, if a 'real' storm moves in, then the freeze could last more than just an hour or so.
I wouldn't sweat it if the temps drop below freezing for an hour or two in the morning. If you are concerned, just disconnect and drain your water hose before you go to bed, and reconnect it when the temps are above freezing. Turn your thermostat on low and hit the sack.

Yeah, You have a chance of hitting 70's or 20's and it's hit and miss. There is a great rv park just north of town The ROSE something. I have stayed there once. Personally I like staying at little molus lake and dry camp but it will be cold up there as it's around 10,000 feet. But the few weeks I don't believe will make that big a difference. Colorado weather is crazy. we had 70 + two weeks ago. snow last week sun this weekend and another 3" of snow on the ground this morning. Go figure?????

I spoke to a nice lady at the Alpen Rose RV park and she changed my reservations to arrive on 5/8/2009. She said that would be a better time. So we are all set. Thanks

I am a part time resident of Durango - I've actually seen it snow over Memorial Day weekend and I can remember couple of years ago in late June getting down to 25 degrees - but not to worry, it does not last long - as long as your trailer is heated, you should have not problems...

Ahhh...springtime in the Rockies
It could be a high of 30-70 and a low of 10-50. Just depends on what day it is. You could see all those extremes in a 48 hour period. I have awakened to an inch of snow and been running around in shorts and t-shirt by noon.
Come on up the weather is fine!
