If I drive down a road thirty MPH below the limit, blocking traffic behind me without regard I am being rude.

Likewise if I drive right on the bumper of a guy going five over (or even five under) the limit I am being rude.

What we lack is common courtesy. It is the courteous thing to not block people because it is construed as our right to do so, nor is it courteous to push someone when they themselves are being reasonable.

If the camp ground has sewer hookups, I don't use the dump station, get all that business done before we hook up.

My favorite dump station story as a highway rest area (in Iowa), My wife's parents, her aunt and Uncle and my wife and I, each in our own unit. Seeing as the other folks were elderly, I did their dumping for them and they each, when finished, moved forward. When it came my turn, I pulled up the trailer, walked around back to hook up the hose and no tank or or hose connection. It was gone. Apparently the weight of the efluent was more stress than the staples holding the tank up. Gosh only knows where we lost the tank.

Another time was in Baxter Springs KS, going to through town, my wife was driving the trailer and hit a rail tracks too hard. I was in front in another unit. I looked in my rear view just as she crossed the tracks and I saw the tank, full I might add, go sliding down the street and into the ditch by the rail road tracks.

No, I didn't go back for it. This was back in the 1970s in SOBs.

You are right, J. Morgan, unless that person is very old, confused, or afraid of mountains, to drive faster, etc.

They don't know rude, are in self-preservation mode.

Just sayin'. Some peiple are rude. Some are inconveniencing others unintentionally.

Dump Station Etiquette

Old folks ALWAYS get a pass from me.

I thought about mentioning this but I didn't want to get too long.

Besides, from my point of view old folks deserve an abundance of respect right up front. Kind of an automatic thing.

There are lots of times when I say to myself "that person BETTER be old".

Yep, we're all going to be old someday, and may still be lucky enough to be safely driving.

Doug's 96 1/2 year old mother still drives the mile to and from Wellman, Iowa. And, pretty darned well.

She does have sense enough not to try a highway, tho.

I jumped to no conclusion. I was asking for clarification on what you were talking about. In the last 14 years we've had both political parties in charge, and I've noticed no change in rudeness levels. So I'm trying to figure out what your idea is. Is there some third party that's really polite?

Dump Station Etiquette

I was talking culture not politics.

Culture for the most part is the driver of politics, even though politicians want to see the tail wag the dog, and they do their very best to meet this end.

In this same vein , in spite of its past failings and shortcomings, traditional American culture has proven superior to what many desire to replace it with.

If you contend that both parties have failed, and are now failing this nation you will get no argument from me. I won't answer this last point on here as surely any discussion on this point will surely push past the edges of the no politics policy of the forum.

The only relevance that I can see in the turn this discussion has taken is that both RV dump valves and politics gush out profuse quantities of the same material.
