Douthat State Park , VA- hidden gem

We stayed at this park a few weeks ago. This is the park all other state parks should be modeled after- friendly staff and campgound hosts, modern restrooms, nice park restuarant overlooking the lake, camp store, concession stand on the beach, boat rentals, kids programs, nature center, etc... I remember as a kid going to parks like this with my folks, and they were always packed with children.

Kudos to Virginia.

-And there was also a friendly couple with an Airstream across from us. They gave our daughter popsicles.

Nice park - I was there hiking a few years ago and walked right up on a copperhead coiled right beside the trail.

Yikes! Didn't see any copperheads, just some harmless watersnakes in the creek.

white oak campground

Douthat is great. I must ask, did you drag going across the low water bridge on the way up to White Oak campground ? Or did you stay at the north end of the lake?
Have a good one!

Nope. We stayed at the new campground near the park

entrance- Nicest showers I have ever seen at a state park. From what I understand, they are going to revamp the facilities for White Oak next year. We have a 23 footer, but I don't think I would try anything too large up that hill.
