Good source of tax revenues.

To a relative newbie like me, this thread seems remarkably long relative to many others.
What puzzles me is the subject itself:
Campfire smoke.

My first time in a State Park campground I was delighted by the sweet smell of campfires.
I was instantly hooked.
And luckily, my wife shares this notion herself. Up to a point, of course.

It tastes better than the horse-sh** cigarettes they used to sell in Tijuana and Nogales.

I'd rather smell a camp fire than cigarette smoke. Now that's nasty.

Kelvin

I am beginning to see the problem about campfire smoke. A living tree capable of releasing oxygen is too green to make anything but one very smoky campfire.

A good campfire needs wood that died a while ago so that it is seasoned. Unfortunately there is a lot of dead wood in the West due to the bark beetle infestation.

We agree with you about cigarette smoke. No thanks!

I live in fort myers, and have been tent camping with cub scouts for the last 5 years. My son is now a boy scout, and the families do not go with them. For 5 years,we cooked dinner and breakfast over an open fire...using a grate for pork, chicken and beef at night....scrambled eggs and bacon in the morning....along with fresh perked coffee. No propane,no electricity...just ingenuity, and a few kitchen utensils. Lots of good dinners, some great spirits(bourbon and vodka mostly) and plenty of comradery. There's a little pyro in most of us,just watch the kids. We burn only wood that's been " cured on the stand"...meaning dead trees that were hit by lightning or died naturally. They were cut after 2 years on the stand, and dried 2 more years "on the cut". It's the sweetest smelling wood around...live oak,and 80 year old mangrove. Put a 70 pound log on at midnight, and it's still smoldering for breakfast.

I must of have been in the wrong boy scout troop. We never had bourbon and vodka around the campfire... just bug juice and hot chocolate!

Wasn't it the cub scout pack, though?

Besides, it's medicinal - not only an anesthetic when applied to the inside, but a disinfectant when applied to the outside. Better than carrying isopropyl alcohol, which can only be applied externally.

Question

Should we banish the Campfire Girls?
