For all you who don't like camp fires, get to Texas. No open campfires are allowed. Extreme draught conditions here. I was camping at Loyd Park in Grand Prarie this past weekend and they even banned charcoal. NO Outdoor flames allowed. I took my electric skillet outside and cooked Pork chops.

The aroma was there......I just glad noone complained about that!

Stream safe.

On our recent trip in Canada, they charged and extra fee ($8, I think) if you want to have a fire.

In AZ we often can't have not only ground fires, but no charcoal either. So we have to be prepared with a gas grill even though we prefer charcoal. We've learned to live with it.

Some state parks don't allow ground fires and they don't have fire pits.... BUT it's not necessarily because of fire hazzards...it's that they don't have the personnel to clean out the fire puts, etc. In this case, they often DO allow you to have a fire if you bring your own fire "vessel" and it is up off the ground and you clean up your ashes, etc...so sometimes we carry a portable fire pit that we can make a wood fire in. We actually kinda like it. Ours folds fairly flat and works very well...

That giant campfire up north in MN, the Pagami Creek wildfire, has created health issues 400 miles away in Chicago. The smoke created a visible pall in the air, prompting an "orange" air quality alert-unhealthy for children, elderly, and those with respiratory or cardiac conditions. Small particulates like those in smoke can harm a person's health because they pass into the lungs. Something those with children or who have serious health conditions should take into account when considering a campfire.

I love campfires, but this is why I do not camp in commercial campgrounds, or any campgrounds where I can see another camper. If I want to be social, I'll stay in the condo and talk to my neighbors. My neighbors don't play loud music, let their kids run wild, or build smokey fires. Don't get me wrong, if you pull in next to me, I'll be nice, help you set up, and bring you a respectable shingle malt. And I will be gone in the morning.

Here's a tip for starting a campfire that gets it going with minimal smoke. Take about 1/3 to 1/2 a bag of self-lighting charcoal as a base and then simply place your dry wood on top and light. Works everytime with minimal smoke and you don't need kindling.

I'm fine with the big fire.. Just curious.. Do you take the loud music into all your campgrounds? If so, please post where you are taking your next trip..

Just being #%£¥ disturber..

I have a drum from my super awesome HE washer that broke last year (it was replaced along with bearings that were packed correctly) so now I use this "old" drum as a fire pit! Looks really cool when the fire burns down a little and you can see through all the holes. Will post pics soon!
