Disney, (Ft. Wilderness) in the Fall

Thinking of a weekend trip down to Ft. Wilderness in September. Anyone been there this time of year? How are the crowds? Good off season time to go?

That is the time to go for the lowest rates. Be sure to tell them you are a FL resident, that will save a buck or two. IF you get a site close to the water you don't need to drive to the parks, you can take the boat for free. Or if you want to drive you will park for free since you are staying on the park grounds as a guest.

Right now the Value rates are in effect.

Even if you are camping in the newer part of Ft. Wilderness (away from the water) you don't have to drive. There are buses that will take you to the boat landing so that you can take the boat to the Magic Kingdom. They also have buses running to all the other Disney parks from Ft. Wilderness.

And Sept. & Oct. are good times to go. Since the school year has just begun, most parents won't take their kids out of school those months.

Thumbs up M-i-c-k-e-y....

I agree with all that September and October are the best times to go to Disney World, having been there many times during those months, and I live in Kansas. We stayed at Wilderness Lodge the last time and found that if we took the boat to Magic Kingdom, we could walk up the ramp and onto the monorail and get to Epcot a little quicker than taking the bus. Besides that the scenery was better.
When you call to make reservations, see if American Express is offering "The White Glove Package". Extra goodies come with that. Have fun... wish I was going too, but that's on the agenda for next year.

I took my SOB motorhome to Ft. Wilderness a few times during the period you mentioned, and it was great. The crowds were minimal. The heat was still bad, as was the humidity and the torrential rains, but that is Florida. The shuttles take you anywhere you want to go. I did a lot of pool hopping at all the finest hotels. Just get off the bus, and go to the pool. Some of them are amazing and more fun than the parks themselves. Oh, and there is no cost involved.

We leaving in two days and staying at Ft Wilderness. This will be our kids first Disney trip and based on what it's costing us, it'll be a while before we can go again...

Place was a ghost town when we were there. If your loop is empty, make sure the hot water is turned on at the "comfort station" before trying to take a shower.

Bring suitcases of money.

We just got home yesterday from our Ft Wilderness trip. When we arrived last Sunday night the campground was maybe at 50% of capacity. On Thursday, quite a few people checked out and on Thursday afternoon/Friday morning a good many checked in and the campground was about 75% full for the weekend.

In speaking to some "locals" the campground is apparently used by many folks who don't go to the parks. They just appreciate the campground as it is.

HI
We are going to Disney Fort Wilderness for the week of New Year's. This will be the kids first time there! They are very excited! We will be traveling with our parents & their airstream too. Mini Caravan. Any suggestions on how to get the night of the 31st?? That is the only night we can't get in the park campground. If we are unable to camp there, any suggestions on a good close campground?

Thanks!

Happy camping!

My favorite answer for the question 'why is Disney so expensive?' Because it's worth it!

Fort Wilderness

We did the Hoop de Do show there. Great food and a Disney styled show, a little hokey but was still lots of fun but worth the money.

We love hoop de do. We have done it at least seven or eight times and have had family members chosen to participate twice.
