Summer 2015 round trip to Alaska, drove 13000 miles using 1000 gal. diesel, so average was 13 mpg with 2012 Ford F250 pulling 2005 Airstream Classic.

It is always great to look down and see these kind of numbers. I think we all have a time or two. The real story will be told in looking at round trips, many round trips through all kinds of situations. That will be the true "endorsement" for a TV.

We left Santa Fe after our stay at the Balloon Festival and drove to Colorado Springs. We drove through, actually with, gale force winds and had a strong tail wind almost all of the way. I got 18mpg out of a tank of gas and was quite excited. Did that ever happen again? NO. Was it an endorsement for the Tundra? NO. After almost 30K miles towing, if anyone asks, I will tell them that I get 11-12 pulling the Airstream. Sometimes more and sometimes less. If the 18mpg leg were an endorsement, what would I have to say on those uphill climbs when I am getting 8?

It is exciting to see the large number. No doubt about that. Congrats on the accomplishment. Let us know what you got when you went back home. That would be interesting.

Or small diesels. My TV is a Ram Promaster van with a four cylinder 3.0 turbo diesel towing a 19' International. I cruise at 100 km/hr. and consistently get between 19 and 22 mpg towing and 25-27 mph without the trailer.

Diesel Mileage: The Perfect Storm

17-21 mpg when towing our 25FB. Highways and faster speeds obviously equals lower numbers. Country roads and speeds between 50-55mph and we even hit 22-23 mpg. Our average from towing 15k miles last year is 19 mpg.
Our Cayenne without towing consumes between 28-34 mpg.

Picture is from a July 2015 long-haul from Utah, Nevada, California...

Land Yacht diesel pusher pulling a Jeep GC cross country last October. 2800 miles with average of 11mpg. Range was 800 to 900 miles per tank but I only let it get that low once just to see if the low fuel light worked

The smaller diesels are putting out remarkable low rpm torque while providing great fuel economy, leading us to go this way. Have yet to tow (later this week) but shows 28 mpg overall in the 1200 miles since we bought it.
