Detroit to Grand Canyon

we are going to do a road trip from detroit to the grand canyon, so far thinking of going via mt rushmor, yellowstone, bryce canyon and returning via texas. any suggestions as to stopping points would be appreciated.

There is also the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest near the Grand Canyon.

Don,t skip Zion NP, a must see. It rivals the Grand Canyon. Also if you can drive thru Monument Valley. And Sadona.

May want to skip the petrified forest, or drop the trailer and make the loop in TV. The road is very washboard pavement and the drive is like ROLLER COASTER ride with a trailer.

I enjoyed Little Big Horn Battlefield National Monument, Badlands National Park, Jackson Hole and the Tetons. I agree with Sadona! If your going from Sadona to Phoenix, check out Motuzuma's Well along the way. If your going to Texas on the Southern route, I10, see Carlsbad Caverns, White Sands in New Mexico and Davis Mountain Range, Big Bend National Park in Texas. If your going to Texas on the Northern route, I40, see Palo Duro Canyon outside Amarillo.

Mesa Verde National Park is also a must see if you're close enough to stop there.

If you are coming from the north, do yourself a favor and take in the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. After which you can head down to the South Rim. There is a world of difference. We have been to the N Rim about 15 times and about five times to the S Rim. We have also done the train ride three times. The train is fun, but the the time at the S Rim is too short to see much. I would recommend driving to the S Rim for a first timer.

Is my memory of riding my bike on a paved North-South road through PFNP incorrect?
