Destination, not the journey...FL to NM

We think the tow vehicle and AS are ready to attempt the trip to NM from SW Florida. The problem is time... we want to get there ASAP and are not worried about the perfect accommodation along the way. Boondocking is not a problem for a night or two, but A/C and showers are nice in Sept. Anyone have a Trailer friendly truck stop they feel "more" comfortable with?

We make that trip a lot,,, I-10,,, along the way are lots of rest stops and truck stops that welcome overnighters. Only one bad experience. When E/B out of Texas into LA, the first rest stop is beautiful, BUT, the saber toothed mosquitoes will eat you alive. There is a large pond there that breeds the cursed beasts. They were so thick that I was killing 8 to 10 with a single slap. It was like that scene in "African Queen".

Not been camping to NM, yet, but I have to say that I saw a great place in St Augustine Pilot Flying J- really nice. I know that one is NOT on your route so I looked up one that may be, Moss Point, Mississippi - parking, dump station, etc. It is about 600 miles or so though on the way. I would look for those Pilots. They can be nice. The one I mention had everything right there- showers, gas at a discount if Good Sam member, overnight parking, grocery, food. etc.

Flying J will be researched... want a place to sleep without setting camp. Kinda worried about walking shy Beagle amongst a sea of big rigs but then again my imagination usually is more dramatic than real life... Anyone else with suggestions? Please? Love you guys!

There's a pretty new RV park in Las Cruces we stayed at, nice one. Westlake RV Resort in west Houston (Katy) is the nicest RV park we have ever stayed in. Also stayed in the RV park in Santa Fe, just ok, but the only game in town. We also stay at the Cajun RV park in Biloxi and recommend it as well. Take I-12 to Baton Rouge and bypass New Orleans, construction and bad roads along that stretch of I-10. From San Antonio to Las Cruces, not much there, a few RV parks but lots of oil field workers make them real crowded. What part of NM are you headed?

Hi Pappy,
We are going to Santa Fe and think we decided to avoid most of I-10 due to Sept. being very prone to hurricanes. They are enough fun to deal with in a solid block house let alone an AS. We were not impressed with the RV park in SF, so we are thinking of a park on the Las Vegas Hwy, not too far a drive from down town and very close to were my family had a home.

Thumbs up

We just used the Interstate rest stops on our last cross country....no problems, just apply common sense...."Fado" is NEVER off leash at any stop.
