Depends on the time of year for Bodie.

At this time of the year, Bodie is probably totally snowed in. And there can be snow on 395 sometimes as well........I have been receiving dump alerts from Mammoth Mountain which is just south of Mono Lake.....

You are right about the downhill being the challenge. The mountains are not that high.....I think the summits are only about 4900 feet or so but remember that Badwater is 280 feet below sea level......so the uphill should not be a problem....it is controlling your down hill speed that is the challenge. p

Yep...I think you'er right... maybe the best way in and out of Death Valley in the winter would be thru Baker north to Shoshone than the Park. I think all of the other Hwy passes in/out are approx. 5,000 Elevation. Trex

Hey you guys it looks like a pretty big storm headed our way. Find some high ground. Do not stay in low areas, gullies and washes. Flash floods can hit you even if it is not raining were you are.

Safe and sound in Shasta Lake City Calif..... I did get my floor painted with smart primer today. Ready for cabinets, pannels, and new flooring! But you'er right, its going to rain and snow (5,000+ elevation), here for the next five daze. Good thing Shasta Lake City is 200 feet above the great sacramento river, folks down river arn't so lucky. Trex

We're getting ready to leave for Death Valley tomorrow, the NWS forecast for Furnace Creek is predicting 20%-60% chance of rain today through Tuesday!

7-Day Forecast for Latitude 36.45°N and Longitude 116.87°W (Elev. -183 ft)

Of course a chance of rain in the desert often means it's best to keep your windshield washer fluid tank filled.

This storm happened in August 2007 but this video tells the story of what can happen in the desert with just 2 inches of rain.......so be on the alert for flash flooding. And have a great trip..this also shows how great the rangers are in DV.......p

Thanks to All!

I just wanted to say, "Thanks" to all the forum members for their input, advice, pictures and videos concerning Death Valley NP. We did get to the Park over the week between Christmas and New Years. Wow! Can't believe we hadn"t come here before. We parked the Argosy at an RV Park in Tecopa Hot Springs and took the Tundra for exploration trips into the Park. Because it was so cold, I'm glad we splurged for electric. Plus, we were able to soak in really relaxing hot water at the end of the day. We'll definately be back!

Gatorboy... Did you make it to China Ranch Date Farm, just south of Tecopa? Fun 1/2 day trip from Tecopa and a great place to pick up some last minute xmas gifts.

It put a smile on my face when I saw that you stayed at one of the RV parks w/hot springs in the Tecopa area. I love that area and hope to return before summer.

Yes we did make it to China Date Ranch. Here's the obligatory pic of yours truly enjoying a Date Shake!
