Death Valley
Spending the night tonight at Fiddlers Campground at Furnace Creek.
I was really surprised at the small number of campers here. I had always heard that people came here in the winter to get away from the cold. And it really is perfect here today: about 70*, clear and calm. When we drove in, the manager just told us to pick out a spot and let him know which one, out of the 80% or so that are available. Same at the Park campground next door. Beautiful golf course next door on the other side with almost no one on it. Oh well, other than the occasional jet and shrieking child, total peace and quiet! Just enjoying sitting with a glass of wine looking at the multicolored hills while Lupe looks for trouble to get into. Finding no opportunities for border collie trouble, she accepts the situation and decides to just go with the flow.
Dogs not allowed on trails, but unlike other national parks, there are plenty of off-trail areas and service roads to take dogs on. Plus with the general lack of people, I get the idea that the federales are mainly just glad you came and hope you enjoy yourself.
I saw maybe 6 other Airstreams around here tonight, making this a pretty highly concentrated Airstream destination outside of a rally.

Thanks for the picture! Our Airstream Club will be there the end of January. Did you happen to notice where the campfire circle is located?

There is a campfire circle just behind where I took the picture. There are group campgrounds next door in the Park Servíce campground that also have campfire circles.

Here is a picture of the fire circle at Fiddlers (sorry about the light; it's starting to get dark).

Your campground is next to ours. It is a little more secluded, and perhaps a little more attractive than Fiddlers, although both are quite nice. There is one on the other side of the highway that is more like a Walmart parking lot, that I wouldn't care for.

Yes how does one get more info on the AS rally? We will be transitioning south around then and normally stop at Pahrump for a few days so it's really close.

Drove (no AT) through Death Valley a few times. Is some of the weirdest, most amazing views anywhere, highly recommend. Furnace Creek is the only civilized post. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Don't try to cross the Devil's Golfcourse: walking is the only way and you can't carry enough water to make it. Dante's Palette, Zabrisky point, the Borax mines, are places out of another planet or a crazy artist imagination. You get to see at once the continental USA lowest and highest point at once. Worth the trip.

Death Valley 49rs do a big all brand reenactment rally every year. Most RVs I ever saw in one place in my life. There was a WBCCI El Camino Real Unit rally within the rally. 20 mule team, horse shoe contest, wheel barrow race, talent contest and other activities I don't remember.
Incidentally my favorite place to park it was the RV Park at Furnace Creek, trees, shade and hookups. It is now closed indefinitely. Fiddler's Creek is next door.

? Not sure what you mean. We're staying at Fiddlers, and the RV park right next to us, which I believe is a NPS park, is clearly open with a 20 or so RV's staying there at the moment.

There was a RV Park at Furnace Creek Ranch, closed this year This is different from Fiddler's Creek and the NPS campground.

This is our WBCCI Greater Los Angeles Airstream Unit's January Event. We certainly have not filled up the campground, yet It is always fun to meet up with fellow Airstreamers.

We've stayed both at the large NPS campground at Furnace Creek, as well as at the Shoshone RV Park, which we really like. OK, so it's not 5 stars, but it has a warm springs pool and is just across the road from a large nature preserve on the Amargosa River.
We've also gone dispersed camping off the Furnace Creek Road just south of the park.

We have reservations at the private CG at Stove Pipe Wells for the 2nd week in April. FHU for $33. Anyone familiar with this campground? Is diesel only available at Furnace Creek? This will be our first trip to DV and there's a lot we don't know! I'm concerned about fuel since our TV only has a 20 gal tank which gives us a 240-260 mile range. I suggested an aux tank but the boss said "NO!". She's not a big fan of the TV after our injector problem last summer.

We're partial to springtime and the wildflower blooms. And enjoying a glass of wine, or other libation, at sunset at Furnace Creek Inn is awesome.

The gas station at furnace creek has diesel; I don't know about the others. When I used to have a TV with limited range, I would carry along 5 gal plastic gas can for emergencies. Anywhere in the park, you will always be within 100 miles of a gas station (with diesel) outside the park

I don't know about diesel, but here is a number to call: 1 760-786-2387
Gas is hugely expensive in Death Valley because (a) it's a captive audience, and (b) California prices tend to be high compared to other states. If you can fill up outside the park it would be cheaper. But also, distances in DVNP are huge. Then you can do another 60 miles just to find gas. If you go off for the day, it's not a bad idea to carry a gas can in your TV.
We've driven past Stovepipe Wells but never stayed there. From the road the CG seems nice enough but I don't recall there being much shade.

I have been through Stovepipe Wells but never stayed there. Swimming pool is across the street. Campground looked fine. There is more shopping dining, famous golf course and horseshoes at Furnace Creek, Stovepipe Wells is closer to Scotty;s Castle, th Dunes, Ubehebe volcanic crater and the Racetrack
