Daisy Joins the Nor' by Nor' East Caravan

We are getting ready to take off on our third extended journey and longest trip yet. We leave on June 30th. Our itinerary will take us north to Richmond Hill, GA to spend a few days with our daughter and son-in-law, then to Fancy Gap, VA to spend the 4th of July weekend in the mountains and see the Andy Griffith exhibits in nearby Mt. Airy, NC, the model for Mayberry R.F.D. From there it’s up the Blue Ridge Parkway and we’ll make a big loop over the major east coast cities to join the WBCCI Nor’ by Nor’ East Caravan in Rhode Island. With the caravan, we’ll make our way north along the coast to Prince Edward Island, Canada. We haven’t decided on how we’ll come back. We’ll take the Indiana Jones approach and make it up as we go along.

We're looking for recommendations for camping in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont after Labor Day.

I'll be posting to the Travel Blog on my website every day I can find wifi once we are on the road. Thanks in advance or any travel tips.

Randy

Talking Jealous

Randy,
I need to retire! Have fun on your extended trip, I know I will be tuning in to see what's up on the road.

I can't make any recommendations for the New England states, but if you find yourself in north west Pennsylvania on your way out or back, why not stay a few night at Penn Wood Airstream Park. We have full hook ups including digital cable and wifi all for $20.00 / night. We have propane on site and washers and dryers to clean those road soiled clothes. Plus it's a great setting to relax a while wih other Airstreamers and see the Pennsylvania Highlands.

Have a safe trip and we hope to see you at Penn Wood.

Pennwood

Carl,

I've got Pennwood marked on the map in case we decide to come that far west on the way back. Thanks for the recommendation.

Blog Updated

There's another blog entry out there talking about our travel preparations. I'll probably post one or two more times before we get on the road. Lots of things to do before an extended trip like this.

Here's another picture of Daisy in her storage facility. I didn't put this one on the blog. Notice the Base Camp parked behind her. It hasn't moved in over a year. I don't know the owner, so I don't know why it isn't being used. Maybe it isn't what he thought it was going to be.

If you wanted to travel light with an Airstream, the Base Camp would make sense, but we like our space and comfort now. Daisy provides just what we need.

We will be home until July9-we are 20 minutes from Mt. Airy-if you have time give us a call. We are going to Cascade Lake near Brevard from the 9th of July until the 16th. Trip sounds wonderful-be safe!

Highland Haven Airstream Park

Randy,
We would love for you to come visit our park! Mt Airy is just a day trip from us. Melissa and I are on the Way to Montana, but "Spirit" is on site #12. Here is a link to Our Park.

Dannie,

We may do that if time permits. We wanted to spend a day in Mt Airy and another in Blowing Rock before moving on north to the caravan rendezvous.

Highland Haven

Abe
Abe,

I really wanted to stay at Highland Haven, but it looked to be too far from what we wanted to do (a day in Mt Airy, and another in Blowing Rock). Let me know if I'm wrong. Right now we are reserved at the KOA in Fancy Gap, VA. We will drive up the Parkway to Front Royal, or until we get tired of it, and then take I-81 into PA. Highland Haven looks like a nice place to stay in the mountains for a few days.

Randy,
Highland Haven IS a beautiful place to stay. We stayed there for a week in ealry October a few years ago and we came home with all of our food, because the nice folks fed us every day. We're going back for another week in August with two more Airstreams from Penn Wood. Sort of a mini caravan.

We are on the road now

We finally got away early afternoon yesterday. Resting today in Costal Georgia. It's just as hot here as it was in Florida. Looking forward to being up in the Virginia mountains tomorrow evening.

Blog Updated

Hi folks,

We have made it to Fancy Gap, VA. A real traffic mess in the Charlotte, NC area yesterday slowed us down. Temps here are in the 60s. Quite a change from the 100s that we have been living with for the past few weeks.

We are up in the Pocono Mountains now. We had a couple of good days at Harpers Ferry, WV and the nearby Civil War battlefield of Antietam. It's all o the blog.
