Daisy Heads West Again

Hi Folks,

We're heading west again. We'll be traveling to Wyoming to attend WBCCI's International Rally, then spending some time in the Tetons. When we head back, we'll go over the top of Lake Superior, before making our way south back to Florida.

Follow along on our website.

Randy

Vicarious Ride Along

Randy,
We followed along last year and we'll do the same this year. I am envious that you two get to travel the country while I am stuck in my cubicle. Have fun and stay safe.

Blog Updated

Two new blog posts this morning. I'm trying to deal with the incompatibilities between Macs and PCs, so PC users, let me know if any pictures drift over the words on any posts.

Thanks for following along,

Randy

Has anyone traveled Arkansas Highway 7 from Hot Springs to Harrison pulling a trailer?

Hi Randy. Pre-trailer we drove this approximate route from Eureka Springs to Hot Springs; probably on AR-7 most of the way. Sometime in the late '80s? I don't recall whether there were switchbacks but do remember it as an enjoyable, scenic and straightforward drive on 2-lane, somewhat curvy road. It won't be a fast passage but it won't be slow either. Gear down on downgrades and take it easy. I'd pull my Safari across there without much hesitation.

Hope you can stop awhile at the Buffalo River to dangle your ankles.

Hi Bob,

There are some motorcyclists parked here at the KOA in Hot Springs that said they wouldn't even drive a car over that road. They compared it to US-129 in NC that wraps around south of the Smokies. Cyclists call it the Dragon, 300 turns in 11 miles.

The AAA map shows it a very curvy but marks it as scenic. Looks like a great ride. I'm still thinking about it. We won't leave here until Tuesday.

Don't know if you if you have left the Hot Springs area yet but there is a great COE campgound on the south shore of Lake Quachita about 25 miles west of Hot Springs on Hwy 270 named Denby Point. It is close to Mt Ida. If you stay there be sure and go over to the the cafe at the Shangrila marina for some of the best home made pie you will every taste.

Hmm... Sounds like US-50 in far northeast West Virginia. I didn't like towing on that one at all!

Forums members? Any more experiences with Hot Springs to Harrison?

LOL Sounds a little like the "Road to Hana" in Maui! One time was enough for us in a car. The difference of course was It has over 60 one way bridges. Oh very scenic!

See you in Gillette!

Thanks for the tip and the restaurant recommendation, but we head north from Hot Springs tomorrow.

The owner of the KOA told me she drove a 30' motorhome on route 7 north and didn't have any trouble. It is slow going though, with many sharp turns. I'll make a decision tonight.

I opted for speed and decided to take US-65 north instead of AR-7. US-65 was still pretty scenic, and had it's share of ups and downs, twists and turns, but the GPS software said it would be faster to go that way.

We did a long 420 mile day, because we wanted to get further north and away from the heat. It worked. 62 degrees here in Columbia, MO this morning.

Unhappy Tire Woes Today

Essentially been off the grid the last three nights with very weak Internet service. Today we arrived at our destination and as I was setting up noticed my left front tire looked wacky. Sure was, the right front was almost as bad, but the two rear look fine. The major wear is on the inside of the left and outside of the right.

I don't recall hitting anything that could have knocked the axles out of alignment, so I wonder what could have caused this?

I'll try to find an RV repair in the morning and get some new tires.

Tire Woes Solved

It was tread separation and wear out that caused the near failure yesterday. Found a great tire store in Scottsbluff, NE, Dales Tires. They changed them one at a time by rolling Daisy up on blocks. No jacking.

Also found a good RV service center, Floyd's. They're a Good Sam recommended place and checked out the trailer axle for me.

We were out on the road again by noon. Drove to Douglas, WY today. The threat of severe weather and high water on the Platt River kind of shortened our side trips today. We'll be in Gillette tomorrow.

Thanks for all the "Thanks" on my post yesterday.

Randy

I updated my blog this morning to discuss all our travel days to Gillette. We are now on the ground in Gillette. Sitting in the IBT meeting at the moment.
